All of our dogs wear half-choke collars made by Kumfi . The half-choke collar is very much like the "martingale" collar, but the loop is made of chain rather than fabric. This allows the dog owner to check the dog's behavior without risk of choking the poor animal. However, because the center loop is chain, rather than fabric, it loosens when pressure is released - allowing the collar to check the dog again immediately (if needed). The martingale fails in this regard, because the fabric loop sometimes stays tight even after the pressure is released.

Half-choke collars are still relatively difficult to buy in the USA. Kumfi is a reputable British firm that has been making police dog equipment for over a decade. They also carry a unique line of adjustable training leashes.
