"The Approved Pubs
as determined by Age & Treachery Racing, Ltd..." |
This is to advise of a new
Pub Sticker location, acquired on a recent trip. This was a LARGE 1995
edition, and it is proudly displayed in a prominent location at:
The Westminster Pub & Eatery
201 Water Street
St. John's, Newfoundland, A1C 1A9
At this location, a pubman
by the name of Eric Mercer went beyond the pale to be kind and generous
to a crusty old foreigner, who, upon learning he had been marooned in this
premise by the untimely escape of his legs, feet, vision, tongue, and decorum,
fell into a righteous and melancholy funk, and commenced to recite "The
Creation Of Sam McGee", in Mandarin, to the probable delight of all gathered.
When all was sorted later, with the help of an itinerant waif named Shirley
- whose shower, incidentally, only dispensed liquid icebergs - an international
agreement was worked out that the kindly old foreigner would return Newfoundland
to it's inhabitants, release his hostages, and cease ALL recitations in
return for a final Guinness, some garbonzo beans, and unfettered passage
off the island. Also part of the agreement, of course, was that the vintage
human would remain anonymous. (Similarities to any actual founding member
of ATR, Ltd., and possible roundel pilot, are just a bad guess, and remain
in the realms of alchemy and conjecture.)

Joe-D's Wine Bar - sounds
pretentious, but if he'll put up a plaque...besides, used to be a gas station. |
If you squint, you can see
the old Approved Pub sticker on the door. |
