Notice that browser icon changes from circled N of Navigator to Composer's sheet of paper both on toolbar and at top of window.

Let's use some features on the Formatting toolbar, from left to right.

  • Highlight your name
  • Click the arrow next to the Body Text box
  • From the drop-down menu, choose Heading 1
  • Click the color box and choose a bright color.
  • At far right, are the alignment buttonsclick on center.
  • Highlight your address.
  • This time click the A with the up arrow.
  • Click B for Bold.
  • Click I for Italics.
  • Click the center alignment button.
  •
  • Click below your typing to remove highlighting.

Next try one of these features on the Formatting toolbar:

Bulleted List
  • Find bullet list button;
    click it.
  • Bullet appears.
  • Type text and hit enter. Another bullet appears.
  • Continue list, hitting Enter after each entry.

  • When finished, hit enter; click bullet list button to clear.
Numbered List
  1. Find number list button; click it.
  2. Number sign appears.

The default is for text to spread across entire browser window.
This is very hard to read.
Create a margin for page with Blockquote feature,
on Formatting toolbar:
  1. Highlight all sentence text to have margin.
  2. Click button with arrow pointing toward lines.
  3. Highlighted text indents from both sides of window.
    Click again to indent more.
  4. Arrow pointing away from lines moves text back out to sides of window.
  5. Click anywhere on page to remove highlighting.

Time to save what we've done.

  • Go to File - Save As
  • When saving a new page, Netscape prompts for Title
Page Title displays in top bar of browser window,
is the text that's displayed for bookmark,
and is used by search engines to index your page.
  • In space for Title, type your name, and the word Homepage.
You can use spaces in the page title.
  • Click OK.

  • In the window that opens, find your local drive
  • Create a new folder called My Webpages.
It is very important to keep all your webpages
    together in the same folder.

  • Double-click to open folder.
  • Assume, for now, that this first page is your new homepage.
For most Internet Service Providers, the default name for your homepage will be
    index.html.
In the field next to Filename, type that.

Filename (the .html name) is different than Page Title.
Do NOT use spaces
for webpage File names.

Browsers cannot read filenames with spaces.
If you must separate words, use the underscore _.
Webpages must have  .htm or  .html extension.
Netscape's default is .html if you don't type extension.
Earlier we changed color of our name, but we can change the default colors for the entire page with Page Colors and Background.
