Placing images and text on Web
pages is not like using a word-processing application for an absolute-sized
sheet of paper. Web pages are meant to be dependent on the size of a computer
screen, so the layout of your webpage often looks different on someone else's
monitor.
You probably noticed the difficulty of placing
images and text sections exactly where you wanted them. To overcome layout limitations
of HTML, Web designers use Tables to arrange text and images.
On your webpage, place the cursor at below your other work.
Click the
Table
Button on the Composer toolbar;
it looks
like a windowpane.
The Insert Table window opens and gives options for table:

Number Rows
and Columns
-
The default is 2
rows and 2 columns.

Table Width
-
Defaults to 100% of window.
Width adjusted by percent or by
number of pixels. -
Set width to
90% to have page margins.a

Border
-
Default table border is 1.
Click OK and the table appears on your webpage.
You can make adjustments to your table in the Table Properties window. Place cursor into the table, then on Netscape toolbar choose Table - Table Properties.

Cell Spacing
-- "bars" between cells
Cell
Padding -- space between cell contents and bars-
Default for spacing and padding is 2.

Table Alignment
-
Places entire table at left,
center
or right of page.
Choose center.

Background
Color
-
Can be different from background
color of page.
-
With dark/image background, choose
light color.

With light background, choose
contrasting color.

Click Apply
to see spacing, padding, alignment and color changes without closing Table Properties window. Make additional changes as desired. When
finished, click OK.
To fill table cells:

Place cursor into table cell and
start typing.
Table cell expands to hold
information.

Place an image in a cell or drag
existing text and images into cells.

Click
Save
then Preview or Browse.
Making changes and adding features:
-
For specific Cell changes, place
cursor into that cell; for Row or column changes, drag to highlight multiple
cells and put cursor in any selected cell; for whole Table changes, put cursor
anywhere in table.

Go to Format
- Table Properties OR
Right click and choose Table Properties.

Same Table
Properties window opens and now has tabs for Table
and Cell

- Change width, border, cell spacing/padding, and background color

Arrow next to Cell field chooses options for single Cell, or for Row or Column that contains highlighted cell
- Set column width and/or row height by % or pixels
- Change text
alignment; default is Top Left

To add rows and columns after initial table creation:
Add rows
to bottom of table by putting cursor into last cell and hitting
Tab
key.
Add rows or columns within table as follows:
- Click into any cell contiguous to where you wish to add the column or row.

- From the toolbar choose Table - Insert ->
OR Right-click and choose Table Insert ->
then choose your addition in relation to the cursor cell:
- Row Above or Row Below
- Column Before or Column After

- Composer adds row or column.
Choosing Cell Before or After adds another column, but
adds one cell in relation to the cursor cell and the others to the right
end of the table.
