OK, first off, I always start with a list. I usually make mine about
two hours before I leave, and it usually looks something like this:

Beer Cigarettes Sleeping Gear Boots (in cave)
Tent Cloths Boots (out of cave) Rain Gear
Cooler Underwear
(very important)
Pillow Ice
Socks Food Plates Swimming Gear
Stove and Fuel Silverware Deodorant Carbide
Radio (also very important) Batteries Trash Bags Lawn Chairs
Toothbrush Toothpaste

OK, then you go through and eliminate what you really don't need:

Cloths Plates Silverware Boots (in cave)
Underwear Socks Swimming Gear Deodorant
Sleeping Gear Tent Food Pillow
Stove and Fuel Toothbrush Toothpaste Lawn Chairs

Now then, let me explain some of my eliminations...

First off, Clothes. OK, so you need clothes. I know that, but why so many? You only need one set, the ones you have on. They can last you all weekend if you're careful. Plates - who needs them. You won't be eating anyway (unless you go to the banquet and then they provide the plates.) Silverware - just bring a Swiss army knife and your set. Boots - same as clothes. If you wear them caving, just put them right back on your feet, they will dry out after a while. Underwear - don't bring any, you'll just lose them at the sauna. Socks - one pair, the pair on your feet when you leave the house. Swimming Gear - two words - GO NUDE! Deodorant will just melt off in the sauna or get washed off when you go swimming. Sleeping Gear - just bring one good blanket, if you even go to sleep. Tent - what for? Remember, you won't even be sleeping. Food - this is to be debated. I usually bring one can of ravioli, just in case (eat it cold.) Pillow - worthless, you won't be sleeping! Stove and Fuel - all you're bringing is ravioli and it's better cold. Toothbrush and Toothpaste - again this is one of discussion. I bring a small bottle of Scope instead, it's much easier. Last, Lawn Chairs - sit on your cooler or find a good stump.

Now for the stuff you do bring. First thing - BEER - and plenty of it. Three or four cases usually does fine. Besides, I like to offer people a beer. It's a great ice breaker. Caving Gear - always important. You want to be comfortable while your caving because you're probably going to have one hell of a hangover (unless you keep drinking all day.*) Now for the most important two things (besides beer and caving gear), THE COOLER! It keeps your beer cold and it gives you a place to put your butt at the bonfire. Of course, when you have the cooler, you must always keep fresh supplies of Ice on hand! Remember, ice is cold and you put ice on your beer and the beer gets cold.

Now for the Radio. Beer + party = radio. Always remember fresh Batteries and plenty of tapes. Rain Gear - always bring rain gear, after all it's MVOR. Last but not least Trash Bags! Always put your trash in the proper receptacle.

OK, so now your gear is ready. Throw it all in the van (don't pack neatly, it will just get messed up anyway.)
Gas up and go, baby, go!

This packing technique works great for any Speleo-event. Of course you have to add more beer if you're going to conventions, it's a week long!

***I am by no means suggesting you go caving or drive while you are drinking and/or drunk!***
If you get really lit up, stay in camp and try to remain calm.
Remember others, and respect everyone's rights!
