October 5, 1907 – "COLLINS TAKES THE STUMP
"W. P. Collins, the attorney, from a buggy in front of the court house, and Williams, the pop corn man, made so much noise this afternoon that a horseback rider was thrown to the ground. Collins talked Socialism and Williams sang. The latter has a very pleasing voice, but sometimes it becomes raucous. Collins was just finished threshing his annual crop of homey and will devote the balance of his time this year to saving the Nation from Bryant’s and Roosevelt’s parties which he says are corporation parties or rather one party with two heads. Collins is getting rich out of his honey product and can afford to play at politics again. This year he made several thousand dollars saving the honey his bees stole from the lawns of Boulder millionaires."

"When W. Penn Collins, former Boulder apiarist, attorney and socialist leader, passed several hours in the Denver county jail yesterday after being held in contempt of court by County Judge George A. Luxford.
"Collins thinks for himself and no one until yesterday was ever found successful in convincing him that he was wrong. A few hours in jail was sufficient to cause Collins to change his mind and apologize to the court.
"He failed to obey the court’s request that he question a witness in a manner suggested.
"Collins was held in contempt during his defense of Maud Gifford charged with vagrancy. At the same time her counsel was jailed, Mrs. Gifford was sentenced to jail for 90 days."
