He has "sat in" with Prince Jellyfish several times. Lately he's been playing with Django Walker (Jerry Jeff Walker's son). | Azoff, Irving | The poison dwarf | Balis, Danny | Bassist, Vocalist. Danny plays bass and backs up Trey Johnson's singing in Sorta, along with Trey Carmichael (drums) and Carter Albrecht (keys, vocals). Danny also plays guitar in the Sparrows sometimes. | Bennett, Stewart. | Engineer. Stewart is a close friend from high-school daze. He is a big-time live sound engineer, whose clients have included Soundgarden (Monitors, FOH), Lisa Loeb (FOH, tour mgt), John Fogerty (FOH), Live (FOH), Tool (System), Smashing Pumpkins (System), Christina Aguilera (FOH), Seal (FOH), Megadeth (Monitors, FOH), Abba (system), Joe Satriani (FOH) and many others. He is a co-owner of Crossroads Audio, a concert sound reinforcement company in Dallas. He and I are partners in Treehouse recording, a company which rents out packages of digital multi-track recording gear for live shows and tours. It's the Treehouse gear that Prince Jellyfish used to record our first demos, and Stoo has been doing a kick-ass job mixing them (as his time allows). | Barrett, Caron | The owner of the Last Beat empire, a co-owner of several clubs in town, and the evil guitar genius behind Astrogin. Caron has been one of the most generous supporters of Dallas music. Period. | Beautiful, The | Jonathan Lacey (guitar, vocals) led this band that also included Perry Bottke (bass) and Frank Ferrer (drums). John Fryer produced their album for Giant Records in the early 90's. The members would re-form as Garland for a demo session in the late 90's | Black, Duncan | Drummer. Perry lives in MN now with his family, doing something that has to do with air traffic control. | Brody, Chris | DJ, Keyboardist. I first knew Chris as the "guy at Last Beat", referring to Last Beat's retail record store on Elm Street. Chris joined Floor 13 as a keyboardist after I left. | Carmichael, Trey | Drummer. Trey is the drummer for Sorta, replacing Scott Randall. I've never met him, but he sure sounds good on the records | Crackbox | Band. Crackbox was the name adopted by SPAM members Trey Johnson (guitar, vocals) Colin McCarty (vocals), me (bass, vocals) and Teddy O'Loughlin, after we bailed on fighting the lawsuit against Hormel. This was the name we used in Denton, where the band ultimately broke up in 1994. | Daane, Mike | Bassist. Mike Daane is a highly sought-after session bass player who frequently gigs with guitar-hero Andy Timmons. He led the band Ugly Mustard. Shawn would also assume the additional post of General Manager at Last Beat Records. Tex was the singer for the Nervebreakers, which included Barry Kooda (guitar), Mike Haskins (guitar), and a parade of other guys named Clint, Walter and....well, a lot of guys. Tex would later form a variety of bands called "Tex & The ______", some of which may have included Russell Fleming (drums), Mike Haskins (guitar), and Danny McCreary (guitar). Tex works at the Continental Club in Austin now, and apparently puts on a weeky show of some sort there. | Elixer | Nate Fowler formed Elixer after the demise of American Fuse, his band with an ex-Cult bass player and drummer Clint Phillips. I think it was basically a solo project, with a variety of musicians contributing to the one record released. Bruce Alford and Chris Purdy were both among those who contributed drumming services to the recordings and/or live band. | Ferg | Drummer. I first knew Ferg as the drummer for the Rodeo Love Gods, which also included Arthur Stevens (guitar, vocals), Keith Long (bass), and Bill Longhorse (guitar). Russell is a professional wallpaper hanger. | Floor Thirteen | Band. Originally an Australian band with a couple of hits, Floor 13's Winston Giles brought the name with him to the US, where, after a stay in LA, he hooked up with manager Shawn Edwards in Dallas. Floor 13's original lineup included Winston (guitar, vocals), Duncan Black (drums), Josh Weber (guitars), and Ricky from The Nixons (bass). I replaced Ricky when he went fishin' and didn't come back. Winston and I had a falling out, and George Terry (bass) and Chris Brody (keys) joined the band. The band eventually ceased operations and Winston was, rumor has it, deported due to visa violations. | Fowler, Nate | Guitarist, Vocalist. Nate was playing in Sixty-Six when I joined. He left some time after Toby Sheets left. He would later form his band Elixer, which included at various times Chris Purdy and Bruce Alford. | Fryer, John | Producer | Garland | Band | Gibson, Devin | Drummer | Giles, Winston | Guitarist, Vocalist. (formerly Bicycle Thief). | Jellyroll | Band | Johnsen, Kurt | Manager, guitarist | Johnson, Trey | Guitarist, Vocalist. Trey and I began school together at the age of 5. The lineup would would replace Neal with Kirk Dunk (drums) and Scott with Teddy O'Loughlin (drums) in high school, when we became SPAM. After SPAM/Crackbox, Trey would lead El Scorcho with Colin and Teddy, as well as Trey's future brother-in-law Kurt Johnsen (guitar) and friend Paul. Trey now leads Sorta, which includes Danny Balis (bass), Trey Carmichael (drums) and the Sparrow's Carter Albrecht (keys, vocals). | Kooda, Barry | Guitarist, Vocalist | Lacey, Jonathan | Guitarist, Vocalist. Jonathan was a scenester photographer as a kid, hanging out with the Nervebreakers-era folk. He, along with Clint Phillips (drums) was a member of one iteration of the Barry Kooda Combo. He did a short project with Mike Graff (guitar). He moved to New York and joined the band that became Giant Records recording artist The Beautiful, which also included Perre Bottke (bass) and Frank Ferrer (drums). He returned to Dallas in the early-mid 90's, where he did projects with people including Kim Pendleton and Paul Quigg in an early iteration of Vibrolux, David Prampin (now David Wayne Starfire).
