I paint not because I can, but because I must. My spirituality is irrevocably intertwined with my art - the Shaman and the Artist are one. My painting is rooted in the sub-concious, and I respond as if in a trance, seduced by the interplay of textures, colors, and patterns on my canvas. My blank canvas fills with light and shadow, color and form, pattern and texture, replacing the emptiness with light and beauty. Truly, I dream while I am awake. I can imagine no greater joy than being an artist.

Cholla's art background ranges from commercial projects and portraiture commissions to her two primary passions - teaching and fine art painting. Her commercial work includes projects for MGM, NBC News, Channels 11 and 2, book illustrations, and commercial illustrations for the Houston Astros.

More recently she has focused upon teaching, private lessons, workshops, and exploring her spirituality with all mediums. She has been a teacher at the Art League of Houston for 34 years. Her work is in both national and international collections.
