FAREWELL COMRADES
My side kick from SAAMA, Turner Lewellen and I, having finished our onsite Inspection early headed back to CCK, AB to formalize our report. Col. Miller (The Board President) wanted us to hand-carry the report update and return some excess New Bot money back for safekeeping.
As we reached the first farm house near the train boarding area, a farmer came out and gave us hot water, soap and a razor. Guess we looked pretty crummy after Five days.
We flagged the train down and saw there were no seats; We were going to sit on our backpacks but the Conductor wouldn't let us, made two sailors give us their Seats. They didn't seem to mind either. As we descended the mountains going in To Taipei, we marveled at the way they farmed the mountains. In Taipei, we went to a hotel and as we checked in we met the Police Chief we had met at the site. He told the clerk something. and it seems they were very nice to us.
We were supposed to find a chopper pilot who was supposed to fly us back to CCK, AB, but he found us during our evening meal. Guess word got around that we were looking for him. He said he couldn't do it because he had a higher priority cargo, the bodies from the crash site. We didn't argue with him.
An ironic story we heard was that the "boomer " was scheduled to go home but took this mission for a friend who was ill.
