Givens born 1876 TN but back further than that I can't find! I am also distantly related to the Hood family of Roane County, TN who married into my grandmother's Shahan family in Roane county. Grandmother mwas a Wilkerson who married William Harvey Sharp. Good luck in your search!

Hello distant cousin through the Thompson line. I haven't done much on the genealogy lately, but I did get a call from Bob Thompson's wife in Bristow. I just got a new printer and will email a picture I scanned of my great-grandfather, James Thompson Hight, son of Samuel and Nancy Thompson Hight.

Charles, I enjoyed your wood carving section. I was born in 1937 which was two years before you graduated from Cushing High. My dad owned the Vee Drug Store in Cushing and I graduated from Cushing High in 1956. Bet I knew some of your family. Wish you a good year. Keep up the good work. :-)

Charlie, I came across your website at classmates.com. I just wanted to say that you are a very talented man and I am very proud that we share a hometown. I don't know that we have ever met, but you might have known my Dad, Bill Baker, he ran a paint and body shop in Cushing.
Anyway, good for you that you are not letting your talents go to waste!!

Thanks for the view,

My brother found your website searching for crash info. My Dad died in the Redbluff CA crash, I was six at the time. We were told that the tail fell off the plane, and they crashed into a mountain. Looks like the tail probably did fall off, but they almost landed that airborne bomb. Seems like there should have been more damage to the landscape if it had exploded. Anyway, thanks for the picture, one of these days I'll have to research the accident docs whereever they are.

Thanks again,

Laurie

Mr. Moore,
I feel that some kind of intervention led me to your web site I am sure. Beleive me it has been that way throughout my quest. Finding it and you has meant a great deal to me. My Father's aircraft is profiled in your accident histories ( Sept. 62) as you now know. There is much I have to ask you, being a witness to the scene and recovery events. It's ok, thre will be no need to be shy about my feelings.
The search for knowledge and information about my Father's accident has been a very unique adventure, spanning 15 years. I have learned a great deal, but always lacked someone who was actually there. Until yesterday. It now appears that with you, another page has turned, another chapter begins, more adventure lies ahead.
Thanks for your site, and your response. I'll soon be in touch.
Frank

Charles, thanks. Shreds of information widely scattered over the debris field of history, but no one has the whole story it seems, or if someone does, he is very tacitern about revealing the facts.

Not much help in the "Guest Comments" regarding these accidents I am sorry to say, but thanks for the clues.

I am a surviving child of a crew member of the Mt. Kit Carson flight, Sep 10, 1962. I am thrilled to find this website. I would love to find other surviving families that were stationed at Ellsworth at that time. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.

I am a sister of Robin Duncan Kendall who also signed your questbook. I was 22 months old when my father was killed in the Sept 10, 1962 crash on Mt Kit Carson. Although I had a wonderful step-father who graciously raised me and who I call Dad, I would like to have any information about my real father. Information has been scarce and inconsistent. Thank you for your website.

Mr.Moore, I can't tell you how grateful I am for your website. I was perusing your guestbook and found a fellow survivor of the Sep 10 '62 crash. I took a chance and e-mailed this guy and we have been in contact ever since. Our dads were both killed in that incident. Through years of searching for info about it, I had not found any other surviving families. Now it's like I've found a long-lost brother. He is much more informed than I am about the accident. This upcoming Sep 10th is the 40th anniversary. Getting in touch with Frank couldn't have come at a better time. Again, thanks for the effort. God bless, Robin

To the family members of those who perished in KC-135A 60-352 on Mt. Kit Carson, my condolences. I have researched this accident to no avail, even the 28th Wing Historian at Ellsworth AFB didn't have much information on the crash (as of 1998). I gave him a copy of the Spokane newspaper account with the 44 names on it, as they did not have the names. At the time the Historian said the wing was considering putting up a memorial to honor all Ellsworth AFB/Rapid City Air Base personnel who lost their lives in aircraft accidents, though I have no idea if this was accomplished or not.

While stationed at Fairchild AFB from 1995-98, I located this crash site on the north side of Mt. Kit Carson, actually on the smaller Day Mountain attached to Kit Carson. If you are ever in the Spokane area and would like to visit the site I can give you directions. It is a peaceful spot on the north slope, covered in snow for 1/4 of the year. I can't lead you there, as I'm now stationed in Alabama, but it is easy to give directions to and is not far off of a nicely maintained trail. Very little remains of the aircraft, just some small scattered wreckage, the largest part being 2x8 feet or so.

Aircraft accidents are one of the worst types of tragedies, and thus people try to "forget" about them to reduce the pain--a few newspaper articles, obituaries, an accident report, and then nothing except for the survivors memories and mementos. Unfortunately, this usually results in the loss of historical data and personal information about those who perished. I am trying to put together as much information as I can about this crash, your loved one should not be forgotten. It would be fantastic if you could email me a scan of your relative (or friend/squadron mate) who perished that day, or mail me a copy and I'll pay for shipping and reproduction costs. If I get enough information and photographs I just might have to develop a website for the information (I've never created a website before). I will also forward any information or photographs I get to the 28th Wing Historian. We must not let the memory of your loved one fade away.

Regards,
Don Hinton

Uncle Charles,
I enjoyed your website! I cherish the carvings you have given our family. I think you should enhance the website to show some of the other things you have built, including the slide guitar & amplifier, as well as the minatures you shared with me decades ago. I'm honored to be related to someone so talented!
I'm also surprised & happy that your documentation of the airplane crashes is able to bring closure to so many people. It just goes to show how good intentions have benefits far beyond initial expectations!
Look forward to talking to you soon!
Trent

This is really weird. I was google-ing my own name tonight and found where there is another Debbie Senters that signed your address book back in 2003. She was number 42 (I think) My name is the same and I'm interested to know more aobut her. Can you hook me up with her? Or just tell her that I'll be putting her on my buddy list and looking for her to sign on to AOL eventually to talk to her. Thanks.

I was a crew chief on a KC 135 out of Ellsworth. I was supposed to be on that plane in 1962.They called my wife to tell her that I was dead, and I answered the phone. They announced over the radio in Oregon that an Oregon crew member was on the plane. But I had by that time called all my family to say that I was ok. If anyone needs some information that I might have, please write.
I am leaving tomorrow from Portland to Mt Kit Carson. I want to see the site. I will return with photos. Larry

Hi Charles, I too was a member of the cleanup crew at the crash site in Taiwan in 1968. I was a radioman stationed at CCK at the time. I setup the antenna and SSB radio on top of the mountain at the train station near Alishan. You may remember us hauling our radio equipment up on the train along with a large generator. You guys would talk to us on hadsets from the site, and we'd relay the info back to mainbase.
