We converted our swimming pool to a 20,000 gallon pond so we could have more and larger fish. Keeping fish has been a hobby of ours since we were married, 31 years ago. We've always had fresh and saltwater aquariums. We currently have a 125 gallon saltwater tank, 75 gallon reef tank, 120 gallon freshwater tank, and several 20 and 30 gallon freshwater tanks. Three years ago, we had a salt water Lion Fish named Vegas and a Cow Fish named Elsie. Vegas & Elsie would only eat live "feeder fish". These "feeder fish" were 1" comets that we bought from a local pet store at 10 for a dollar. Dorothy started putting the "cute" feeder fish into the pond. We now have dozens and dozens of comets, some up to 12" long. In the spring of 1998, we bought 100 small fingerling Koi. In the Spring of 2000, these Koi were 12 - 18 inches long and are spawning like crazy. By the Spring of 2001, they have grown to over 20". Our largest Koi is "Freckles", a 32" red & black Butterfly Koi. We also have Orandas, "Golf Balls", Fan Tails, and Calicos. We have so many Koi now that we are going to have to start selling them to reduce the population. The Koi are under the waterfall because the water is more oxygenated there. We added two aerating pumps to the pond after these pictures were taken. The Koi don't congregate around the waterfall now.
