RIORDAN October 311 1996 Mayor Marsha Morton Center Manager Landmark Education 5200 West Century Boulevard, Suite 200 Los Angeles, CA 90045 Dear Marsha: Hello Marsha. I hope everything is going well with you and with Landmark Education. I would like to take a minute to acknowledge you, Bonnie Brody and Landmark Education on the wonderful results produced by the Forum experience. I personally have benefitted by the Curriculum for Living and have become more present to who I am in the world and have the world in perspective as to how it relates to my life. More important than my experience, is the tremendous experience I see police officers have in their encounter with the Curriculum for Living. These police officers gain a tremendous sense of what it is to be human. They learn that we are all the same but our external packages are different. They also learn how they, and the work they do as police officers, are so globally accepted and admired by their Forum participants. Finally, thank you for providing this opportunity to police officers everywhere. With the Forum technologies at their disposal, police officers have become more focused, more efficient, more patient and tremendously human. I recommend this experience for everyone, world-wide. WILLIAMS Chief of Police November 6,1996 Ms. Marsha Morton Los Angeles Center Manager Landmark Education Corporation 5200 West Century Boulevard, Suite 200 Los Angeles, CA 90045 Dear Marsha: RICHARD J. RIORDAN Mayor I hope this letter finds you and your incredible staff at Landmark in the best of health. I miss my frequent visits to the center and the energy that is always present. So much has happened since I completed the Forum three years ago. As you know, my focus has been to transform the police service in the Wilshire Area of Los Angeles. It wasn't until I completed the Forum that I started to accomplish breakthroughs in this area. The Forum provided me the tools and insights to overcome resistance we experienced along our journey As you know, our station was honored with the 1994,1995 Eureka Quality Awards for Service and Productivity by the California Council for Quality and Service. This is a most unpredictable award for a police station to receive in view of the present environment. So much of what I and others learned in the Forum made the difference that launched us beyond what I thought was possible for police service. There are so many stories of exemplary service and innovation as a result of the Forum that I continue to be so thankful of the level of training you provide to our people. It is my understanding that we have approximately 200 Los Angeles police officers who have completed the Forum. It seems as though wherever I go these graduates are actively involved in altering their environments as a result of what they have learned in the Forum. It is difficult for me to imagine what my life would be like without having this valuable training. It has affected so man), aspects of my life in a powerful way. I don't know how many people it takes to create a critical mass for change in an organization; however I know that we we well on our way to changing police service in Los Angeles as a result of the training that Landmark has provided. Please give my warmest regards to all of your staff and volunteers who make the Forum available in our City.
