November 18,1996 Marsha Morton Center Manager, Los Angeles Center Landmark Education Corporation 5200 West Century Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90045Dear Marsha. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and those who work with you at the Los Angeles Center for bringing the programs of Landmark Education to all of us in the Los Angeles Area. Of course I personally would not have benefitted from these programs had it not been for the incredible commitment of Bonnie Brody. She is indeed the embodiment of Possibility. As you are aware I am currenfly a Commanding Officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. Not only is this letter a thank you for your efforts, I also wanted to share with you the tremendous impact that the Forum and the other programs Landmark offers has had on my work place. So often police officers are viewed as uncaring or without emotion when in fact the exact opposite is true. Men and women become officers to contribute and make a difference. The problem is that over a period of time we find our humanity buried under layers of cynicism. The technology of the Forum has helped uncover the human being in all of us. In an era of Community Policing it is critical that police officers remain in touch with their humanity and recognize it in others. When officers under my command return to work following their Forum they are energized and optimistic. They once again see what is possible and an entirely new conversation is entered into in the police station and the community we serve. Let me close by saying that what you are doing is making a very significant difference. The fact that you and Landmark have made the Forum available to Police Officers here in Los Angeles will enable the work to have an increasingly stronger impact on Los Angeles because of our outreach to the community. I have had the privilege to meet officers from others cities who are or have been involved in Landmark programs and I am left with the distinct impression that truly enormous progress is about to be made in our cities. In the almost thirty years I have been in the Police Service I have never before felt so optimistic about anything. Thanks again for helping to make this all possible. THOMAS R. MOSELLE, Captain Patrol Commanding Officer Hollenbeck Community Police Station |
