The G-Force Rocket

The G-Force rocket is a kit made by Aerotech. I bought this rocket kit in July, 2006. It is 4" in diameter, 60" long and has a mass of 907 grams according to Aerotechs specs. The mass of my G-Force was 1,035 grams empty. I used a different method for motor retention which added some extra mass. I used two blind nuts instead of the Estes-like motor clip that came with the kit.

1. The maiden launch was on an Aerotech G80-4 motor. The rocket had a total mass of 1,220 grams with the motor and an altimeter. The altimeter recorded an altitude of 614 feet. The flight was flawless, with ejection near apogee.

2. Launched on an Aerotech G80-4 motor. I added rail buttons, and I launched from a rail. The rocket weathercocked quite a bit, and it reached an altitude of only 462 feet according to the altimeter. The chute partially opened until the rocket was about 150 to 200 feat from the ground when the chute fully opened. The rocket landed a few hundred feet from the launch pad.

3. Launched on an Aerotech G64-4 motor reload. This was the first time I used the 29mm casing. The rocket weathercocked quite a bit, and it reached an altitude of only 488 feet according to the altimeter. The chute never opened, and the rocket hit the ground fairly hard. The booster section was stuck in the ground by one fin. There is no noticeable damage to the booster section. The upper section landed on its side, and the body tube was dented. I will need to look at this in more detail to see if it can be repaired.
