Snow in Texas ???
|
|
Yes! Virginia, Texas does get snow and ice. This year (2000), mother nature finally decided to catch up for the last three winters. We have had above normal temperature for the 1997, 98 & 99 winters. This year so far, November was the second coldest ever recorded and December will probably be in the top 5 coldest Decembers. The coldest December ever recorded was in 1987 when the temperature never got above freezing for 295 1/2 hours. It lasted till December 31st. The lowest temperature during that time was -6 degrees. Here I am writing this web page on December 31st to show you our first ice storm on December 13th 2000. Outside right now we are getting 1-3 inches of snow/sleet covering everything again. Our bad weather normally comes at the end of February and the beginning of March but not this winter. I have been waiting for several years to see what my garden railroad looks like with some white stuff on it. I know this does not compare with the winters in other parts of the country (I am a transplanted Yankee from Pennsylvania), but I needed to have something in my scrapbook for winter pictures. This is the first snow since I have built the DGRR railroad. Here are the December 13th 2000 pictures. Click on the picture to ENLARGE Here are the December 31st 2000 pictures.
