Armageddon?

I've been having a string of weird thoughts.
We're all acquainted with Christian fundamentalists' "end-times" and "rapture" theology. There's the idea of a global battle between good and evil. The end of the world. Armageddon.
Over the last several months I've been impressed by the fact that our awareness of good and evil on a global scale has been so much increased via media coverage. I've been repelled by the widespread expressions of hatred by extremist groups, and their increasing power to affect lives world-wide. And I've been heartened by what seems to be a coming together of the community of nations in opposition to genocide and in defense of life and liberty. Slow & halting as it might be, a Pinochet is arrested, action is taken in Kosovo, world courts try tyrants for crimes against humanity. The "battle" that once was parochial and ill-defined does seem to be taking shape on an all-encompassing level.
The Mayan calendar has signaled the end of an age. Is a Jungian archetype manifesting itself here as real? If so, what archetype portends the outcome?
