Where Do I Want To Go Today? |

Our little area of South Texas is part Mexico, part Texas, part Americana. Some call it the Republic of Maverick County because people here do things their own way, whereas I usually just call it the Border Zone. With the nearest decent sized city 130 miles away, the isolation sometimes becomes suffocating. I appreciate the internet so much partly because it solves many problems caused by our geographic solitude. The www provides ideas, goods and services that otherwise wouldn't be available in Eagle Pass. My job as Eagle Pass High School C.C. Winn newspaper/yearbook sponsor and photojournalism instructor has fed my interest in the technology field. Our building currently houses only juniors and seniors as the 9th and 10th grades are housed in a separate campus. For the past 6 years we have submitted our yearbook page designs electronically and for the past 7 years we have gradually increased the photojournalism students' participation in digital photography. I've enjoyed experimenting with numerous computer applications, many dealing with graphic design, and a few from the multimedia field. I want to shift my teaching assignments at least partially from journalism to business computer courses. Today, I want to go back to school. I wish to finish the MEd in Educational Technology through the UT-Brownsville on-line program. Then, I hope to use that degree to gain a job as either an instructional technologist or as an instructor at a junior college or community college. I believe that today's technology can be a powerful tool, but that most schools seldom use it to its fullest potential. I would like to be in a position where I could improve upon that situation. |

The links that I put below will take you to the following: our high school campus web site that my wife and I have administered since 1998; to our personal family pages, which are mostly on-line photo albums of our kids for grandma to view; and to a parable that should give any educator a good laugh. |
