This is the dining room overview and is pretty much self explanatory. The layout is designed to go around the outside of the room on a shelf about 13 inches wide. Thus, the dining room can be occasionally used for its intended purpose. The first test of this hypothesis was Thanksgiving, 2000. The earlier 6 X 10 layout as seen in the photograph on the Home page used to sit on the dining room table.

The layout is basically a giant helix with a fifty feet long circumference. This is the equivalent of about a circle with a fifteen feet diameter. Each lap around increases the track elevation by four inches and results in an average grade of 0.67%.

This is dining room in the Spring of 1986. The clutter on the table is in preparation for filling out tax forms.
The dining room converted to a much higher use - the layout room from roughly the same view. Photo taken in the Summer, 2001.
The room remains multi-use, however. With the shelves only thirteen inches wide, the dining room can serve its original use. Fortunately, this is only on fairly rare occasions or once or twice per year.
