Protective Gear
You will be riding our training bikes both Saturday and Sunday in the Basic Course.
Anytime you're on a bike in either class, the following must be worn:

D.O.T. approved helmet (we have loaners),
Eye protection (glasses or sunglasses work fine),
Full fingered gloves (cotton jersey gloves or gardening gloves are OK for training),
Long sleeve shirt (long sleeve t-shirt is good, the lighter the color the better),
Long pants preferably denim,
Over the ankle footwear with short heels (hiking boots or athletic shoes w/ rubber [non-slip] soles).

As you can see, during training you must wear minimal safety gear, but comfort is a high priority. Out on the road, more substancial protection should be worn.
If you have any questions on gear required, call or e-mail me.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I've never ridden a motorcycle before, is this course for me?
A: Yes!  The basic rider course starts with the basics and gradually progresses to more advanced skills.

Q: I've been riding for years, why should I take this class?
A: If you've never had a training course, or if it's been more than 5 years since you last took one, you'll be pleasantly surprised at what you'll learn!

Q: What kind of bikes will we be training on?
A: We have a variety of small displacement bikes (125 & 250cc). It's important to train on a bike that you will feel comfortable with. Techniques we teach can be transfered to any bike. Not all that long ago, MSF would not allow training on a bike larger than 350cc!

Q: Can I bring my own bike for the beginners class?
A: Typically no. If you are taking the course to ride a scooter, you may use your own scooter. Also, if your motorcycle is 500cc or smaller you may use it. Call for more info.

Q: What's the difference between the MSF Basic RiderCourse and the Riders Edge Course?
A: In a word: MARKETING. The "learning to ride" portion of their course is basically the same as ours, with additional time being spent with students learning the "Harley Experience", and if you have the time for a 5 day class it's good!  Also, their on-cycle training is on larger bikes than ours, the 500cc Buell Blast.

Q: What time is lunch? Do we need to bring a lunch?
A: There is no set time on either day, but plenty of time is allowed for lunch. There are plenty of fast food places within two miles of the range.

Q: Do I have to have a Texas driver's license to take the course?
A: If 18 or older, you do not need a license of any kind to take the course. If under 18, you must bring your 'learner permit' that is issued after driver ed, or a driver's license.

Q: What happens if it rains?
A:  We ride! It is recommended that you bring rain gear if the forecast calls for rain. Generally when it rains it is for a short period of time. Students taking a 'rain course' are usually glad afterwards and are not afraid to ride in the rain when they get caught out in it!

Q: When can I take the Experienced Rider Course (ERC) if I am a new rider?
A: There is no exact time period. We ask that you get a few miles under your belt and become familiar with your bike.
