Storm Haven Alpacas is located in Americas heartland just 12 miles east of Oklahoma City off 1-40 and is owned and operated by Karon and George Storm. Our love affair with alpacas started by a chance viewing of a public broadcasting program on alpacas. We immediately were hooked and thus began a long search for information and alpacas. After visiting several ranches we made our first alpaca purchase in 1995, a beautiful black female who immediately presented us with a lovely female cria sired by Bravo Bravo. With these two we founded our herd and began a dedication to breeding quality huacaya alpacas. We use nationally know sires for outside breedings and have added a Monzon son as our current herd sire. Our most interesting adventure with the alpacas was on May 3, 1999 when the F-5 tornado came through Oklahoma City. We live in an earth shelter house and when we realized we were in the tornado's possible route we began bringing in the alpacas. We had the females and crias in one hall and the males in a back room. The girls had a view of the television and seemed interested in watching it with an inquisitive "humm?" until the lights went out and we were all in the dark. The alpacas took it all in stride and behaved quite well, we only had a few beans on the floor and one spit on the wall. Fortunately we had no storm damage. We welcome visitors, if you would like to come see for yourself just how wonderful alpacas are give us a call and schedule a farm visit. |
