| HOLY
TRINITY PART II
Matt.16:15-17
(Thou art the Christ the Son of the living God).
Psa.2:7 (Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee). 1 John
5:5 (He that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God). “Thou
art the Christ, the Son of the living God,” This reply affirms
two great truths concerning Jesus--His divine Sonship and His Messiahship.
Even Peter, however, did not realize the full import of this confession,
as is evidenced by the severe rebuke of verse22 of Matthew 16, but
the answer of Jesus with the play on the word (petros) rock, implies
that He regarded this confession of His Divine Sonship and Messiahship
as the foundation on which the new Israel of God was to be built.
The moral and Spiritual content of the confession is more important
than the intellectual. The second (intellectual) may change; the
first (confession) is permanent.
John 17:3 (The only true God, and Jesus Christ whom
thou hast sent).
1Cor.8:4 (and that there is none other God but one).
1Thes.1:9 (Serve the living and true God).
It is called eternal life to show that it reaches beyond the limits
of time, and that it necessarily implies: the resurrection of the
body; the immortality of the soul; and that it is never to end,
hence called “a life ever living.” The way to attain
this eternal life is to acknowledge, worship, and obey, the one
only true God, and to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as a Teacher
and Saviour, the one and only true Messiah. Here Jesus plainly states,
Jehovah, is the only true God.
John6:6-9 (Thou art that Christ, the Son of the
living God).
1John 4:12-15 (The Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the
world).
John 3:17 (But the world through him might be saved).
On the authority of Thy word; and sure--“having known,”
by the evidence of Thy miracles, that thou art that Christ, the
promised Messiah; “the Holy One of God,” Where shall
we find a more gracious master--a more powerful redeemer--a more
suitable saviour? “Thou alone hast the words of eternal life,”
Again the truth of Jehovah being that one and only living God is
revealed to Peter, also the truth that Jesus is the Son of this
living God. We must believe that Jesus is the Son of God, not one
of a Triune (three) Godhead (1John 4:12-15).
1Tim.2:5 (One
God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ).
1Tim.1:17 (The King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise
God).
1Tim.6:15-16 (The blessed and only Potenated, the King of Kings,
and Lord of Lords). Christ the mediator signifies literally a “middle
person, ” or” a peacemaker” one whose office it
is to reconcile two parties that are hostile. There can be only
one eternal Being, that is, God; and He only can have Immortality.
We are told that this King eternal, the only wise God, “who
only hath Immortality.” He is the only one that has Natural
Immortality. All other, including the Lord Jesus, has immortality,
as a gift from the King Eternal, the one true God.
