SPEAKING IN TONGUES PART II

2 Cor. 11:13-15 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light
Rev. 12:9 That old serpent the Devil, and Satan which deceiveth the whole world.

It is generally said that Satan has three forms under which he tempts men; the Subtle Serpent, the Roaring Lion and the Angel of Light. He often, as the Angel of Light persuades men to do things under the name of religion which are subversive of it. It is plain that in these last days many false teachers, including miracle workers with Satanic Power would arise and deceive many. Yes, there are miracles from God and Gifts of the Holy Spirit for the true Church today. But the fact that a preacher who manifests miraculous power is not final proof that such power and manifestation are gifts of the Holy Spirit. Satan performs lying wonders, and counterfeits the gift of Tongues, so why then do many accept the manifestation of speaking in “Tongues” under a power to be the proof that such a person has “The Baptism” of the Holy Spirit?

Mark 16:17 In my name they’ll cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues.

1 Cor. 14:2 He that speaketh in unknown tongue speaketh not to men, but to God. There were about 120 disciples of the Lord Jesus there, (Acts 1:15). They were not babes in Christ, but men whom Jesus had called and trained to be His witness in preaching the Gospel far and wide, (Acts 1:4-8; Luke 14:46-49). They were waiting at Jerusalem as Jesus commanded “until ye be undued with power, the Holy Spirit, from on high.”

Acts 2:1-4 pictures what happened that day. Speaking in Tongues, did it come first as a Supernatural Manifestation? “There came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind.” No, it was not a mighty wind, but as the sound of such a mighty wind, “filled” all the house where they were sitting. Another manifestation came. “And there appeared unto them Cloven Tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them”. Has any man living witnessed such a manifestation in this day? Here were two mighty manifestations of God’s presence through His Spirit. “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, (Acts 2:4a). Remember, there were two manifestations, being filled with the Spirit and Speaking in a new Language, (Acts 2:6b).

Has anyone ever heard of a modern “Pentecost meeting where all were filled all at once, at the same time, suddenly when the Spirit came with a Great sound from heaven and began to speak with other Tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance?” On this original day of Pentecost All began suddenly to speak in these other languages. Now, what kind of tongues speaking was this? Was it unknown Tongues? Was it the kind that needed an interpreter or was it like we see demonstrated today? Those disciples were all filled with the Holy Spirit, Power from God. Remember, they were being given power for witnessing, for preaching and teaching the people. Did they teach other people as they spoke in other Tongues, or Languages; or was it as some teach today the initial evidence to those disciples that they had been Baptized with the Holy Spirit? They were preaching the Word of God and were being understood. They were dwelling in Jerusalem, devout Jews out of every nation on earth. A multitude of these Jews came rushing to the place. They were amazed, “Every man heard them speak in his Own Language!” These Jews, from all nations understood what was said! And they said, “And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born, (Acts2:8-11). The unknown tongues were languages that they were born with, just like you and I. I was born in America, my language is English, if I were born in Germany my language or tongue would be German!
