THE
TWO LAWS PART I Jesus did not abolish
the Ten Commandments at Calvary. They are independent of the Mosaic
Code. They preceded the Law of Moses, coming to us from Creation;
therefore, the ending of the Moses’ ministration, or Civil
Code, did not mean the End of the Ten Commandments. Moses enforced
obedience to the original basic code; the Ten Commandments, as Mediator
of the Old Covenant. Under the New Covenant; our Mediator, the Lord
Jesus Christ, enforces obedience to the same basic Universal Laws,
the Ten Commandments, from the heart, with no changes of the original
law. While setting aside some of Moses’ administrative code,
Jesus recognized two full authority of that Original Law, the Ten
Commandments. To Jesus the Ten Commandments does hold an independent
place from the Mosaic law. The same is true of Paul’s Epistles.
What we want to consider is when these Laws appeared,
what they consisted of and why they stand or fall. Paul speaks of
an Added Law, and Abolished Law, and he also speaks of blotting
out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us! He also tells
us the first covenant had Ceremonies of Divine service, and a worldly
sanctuary. What was that middle wall of partition between us that
was broken down by Christ? What laws was abolished at Christ’s
death? Are we to keep God’s Holy Laws (the Ten Commandments)
in this dispensation?
We found without Law there is no Sin! The first law on record was
“thou shall not, found in Gen.2:17. The “Tree of Knowledge
of Good and Evil,” contained the knowledge of what constitutes
sin. By the law is the knowledge of sin” (Rom.3:20). The “Covenant
Law” (the Ten Commandments) began at Eden! Though not spelled
out until Sinai as a cod, was known and was the yardstick by which
the world was judged! Others were added to it to further define
sin as the world continued on. Cain, motivated by jealousy and hate,
slew his brother Abel and was condemned by the Law (Gen.4:8-12).
Placed under a curse by God, he became a fugitive and a vagabond.
As man multiplied in number so did his sins! There
came the “Point of No Return,” recorded in Fen.6:6-7!
God destroyed the world, then estimated to be up to 2 billion souls!
Out of which only eight souls were saved! Sodom and the plains of
Gomorrah were destroyed for sin. The record of the destruction of
Sodom is found in (Gen.19). The reasons for this destruction, (Lev.18:22)
was know in Abraham’s time! Ham, one of Noah’s sons
was cursed for making sport of his father’s nakedness while
drunk. Jacob’s son, Joseph, while in slavery in Egypt, was
approached by his master’s wife for extra marital sex on her
part. Joseph’s answer was, “how then can I do this great
wickedness, and Sin against God” (Gen.39:9)?
These examples are just a small portion of those
that could be given. These are to show that list of 31 laws taken
from the “Book of Moses” had to pre-exist at the time
of Moses, with the exception of the Passover.
Deut.4:12-13 (He commanded you to perform, even Ten Commandments).
Deut.5:22 (And He added no more, and He wrote them in two tables
of stones).
Deut.10:1-4 (Hew out two tables of stone, then make thee an ark
of wood).
Ex.24:12 (I will give thee tables of stone, a law, which I have
written).
Let us establish the fact from the Bible that there were Two separate
laws given at Mt. Sinai in the day of Moses. God declared these
Precepts with a great voice and all the assembly of Israel heard
them. God wrote this law on two tables of stone with His Own Finger.
These Ten Precepts were a complete law; God “added no more”
and God called them, a “law which I have written.” Moses
himself placed this law, written on two tables of stone by the finger
of God, in the Ark. Moses broke the first tables, but God wrote
the same words on the second tables of stone and Moses placed the
second tables of stone in the ark as God commanded. There we have
on law, the Ten Commandments, placed in the Ark by the hand of Moses,
after being written by God Himself on two tables of stone.
Ex.24:3-8 (And Moses wrote all the words of the
Lord in a book).
2Chron.34:14 (The priest found a book of the law, given by the hand
of Moses).
John1:17 (For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came
by Jesus Christ).
Gal.3:10 (Cursed is every one that continueth not which is written
in the book).
Gal3:9 (It was added because of transgressions, till the seed (Christ)
should come).
