Who am I?

Hello! I am Oscar Wilde Cat, an energetic, inquisitive (some would say nosy) feline from St. Louis, MO. I was born in St. Louis around Dec. 20, 1995 (no one seems to have a copy of my birth certificate!).

My ancestors come from the Isle of Man in Great Britain. I haven't done much research on my genealogy, so I'm not sure what other bloodline is mixed with the Manx (I was described as a "Manx Mix" at the Animal Protective Association). But we suspect it might be Siamese because I sure love to talk. My human apparently wasn't being very observant, because even though he held me at the APA, he forgot that Manx cats do not have tails. It wasn't until we were home and he let me out of the carrier that this came to light. I bounced across the room to investigate the TV, and he exclaimed, "You have no tail!"

Well, I was a bit put out, since he didn't have a tail either, but I didn't say anything. Sometimes actions speak louder than words, so I made my way behind the TV. When he tried to get me to come out, I decided to snub him a bit and found a nice hole that led beside the stove to a little nook behind the cabinets where he couldn't follow. I stayed in there four hours, and finally relented and came out to eat and get on with life.

I live with my human and our new kitten Felix in a townhouse in the city. My human is a 39 year old who is allergic to me! However, he puts up with my crawling on his head at night and sticking my whiskers in his face because he has always liked cats. I picked him out of the many people browsing through the cages at the APA, sensing he was looking for an affectionate cat who likes to sit on laps. I also happen to look very much like the cat he used to own, Minette, so I knew I was in!

What are my hobbies?

Funny you should ask! Like most cats, I am an avid bird watcher. We have a married pigeon couple living on our downspout. I like to sit in the bathroom window and try to make them feel nervous. It doesn't always work, but I enjoy staring at them. They sometimes get embarrassed when they are in the throes of pigeon passion and suddenly realize they are being watched.

I also like to chase spiders. They don't last very long, but they are great fun to romp and stomp with. We had a nice collection for awhile; it seemed like a never-ending supply, but alas all good things must come to an end! Now I hardly ever see any and my human isn't apt to be bringing any home for me, so I have to content myself with fond memories.

We play with toy mice, strings, shoe laces, ping pong balls, yarn balls, keys, door stops, magazines, and R2-D2. I like to attack things under doors, and occasionally I try to see how long I can hold my human's arm in my mouth before he surrenders. Every now and then I will watch TV, but most of it quickly bores me, except for some movies. We also play hide and seek and tag.

What are my favorite foods?

This is something I definitely wish I had more control over! It's bad enough I have to wait until my two feeding times to eat, but then to have little say in what that food is can be beyond frustrating. However, my human does indulge me from time to time. Some things I like to eat are peanut butter, plum jelly, milk, cheese, catsup, and honey. I like to lick tea off my human's finger, but I won't drink it out of a cup.

Why the heck does a cat have a home page?

I made my human give me an account online! I spend much of my day alone while he is out working, and after I've slept my quota, I need to find more things to do. Surfing the web is a nice outlet. So I am learning about many things!
