and welcome to my web page. My name is Christina Johnson.
I am a 18-year-old Senior at Allen High School, in Allen,
Texas. There I have a 3.7 GPA, run on the Varsity Track
team, and play on the Varsity Softball team. I am also a member
of the Student Council and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
With the exception of being with my friends, softball
is my thing. I've played since I was four years old. My mom
always coached the teams I played on until I was 13.
That's when I started playing tournament ball. The first
team I played on was a team named Destiny. The team
was put together with a group of All-Stars from Plano,
Texas. We finished our inaugural season with a 23rd place
finish at the '96 ASA Nationals.
In '97 I was the only Freshman to make the Varsity team and
was voted Offensive Player of the Year for District
10-5a. I was also named to the All Tournament team in the
Tina Menke tournament in Denton, Texas. We finished our
season by making a first time appearence to the play-offs
and ended our season as bi-district champs.
In club ball I skipped the 16-and-under age bracket and
went straight to 18-and-under. I played for a team
named Texas Poison. We finished 18th out of 64 in the
AFA Nationals in Kansas.
Last year (1998) was a very exciting one. My High School team
went deep into the playoffs, becoming the Region 2 Quarter
Final Champs. We had a tough time against a team from
Klein-Oak, Texas, who eventually went on to win the State
championship in Region 2, Class 5a. This year we hope to
do better. Although we lost a couple of good players,
there are others ready to step up and fill their shoes.
The success continued in 1998, when I played on an
18-and-under Gold team named Texas Flash. The team was made
up of several girls from my high school team and a few
other girls from around the district. We had a blast,
winning 4 tournaments, and finishing 2nd in another.
We compiled a record of 29-8-1 and finished a dissapointing
12th in the USSSA National tournament in Richmond, VA. A
couple of mental errors kept us from going farther into the tournament. This coming season I'm sure we'll learn from our mistakes.
Well, we just completed our most successful High School season yet. The
1999 Allen Lady Eagles went 13-1 and we won the District 9-5A title. It was the first district title for softball in the schools history. We only made it 2 rounds into the playoffs though. 2 errors in the 6th innings found us on the losing end of a 2-1 game. Them errors will get ya everytime.
I was honored for my efforts this season with my 2nd District Offensive Player of the Year title. It's a great honor for me because I work really hard on my offensive part of the game. Check out my stats below. I was also awarded a tournament MVP award in the Arlington Kickoff Classic tournament that was held at the beginning of the high school season. I recently found out that I made the Dallas Morning News 2nd team All-Area team and was named to the 3rd team All-State team. Wow! what an honor.
I also ran on the Varisty track team this year and walked (ran) away with 2 school records. One on the 4x100 relay and the other in the 800m relay. How awesome!
My summer team, Texas Flash, has had a rough start this summer. We took 1st in the Arlington tournament and have had 3 tournaments rained out. The team just can't get on track. This past weekend in San Marcos the team decided to breakup. It seems with all the rainouts and a couple of injuries the team just didn't have what it took to compete.
I joined a team to finish out the season. There name is the "Sparks" and they're based out of Garland, Texas. The team is filled with mostly 16 year olds that are playing up. There is a couple of 17 year olds, and only 2 others besides myself who are 18. This team is very competitive and we're currently playing in the AFA Dallas Metro tournament. Next weekend we'll be in Irving, Texas and the following week we'll be Beaumont, Texas for the AFA Nationals. That will close out the season for 1999. I'm sure I'll only get a short break and it's time to get ready for "Fallball" I'll keep you update as to where I'm going from here.
I really enjoy playing softball and hope to continue
playing at the college level. My goal is to go to a
Division I or II school and study to become a teacher, and
maybe even coach.
