jan's garden 2002

2002 was a busy year.  I didn't get as much done in the garden as I had hoped.  My one major accomplishment was the big pond, but I'm still working on it so most of the pictures  will have to wait until 2003.  I spent the summer moving kids around.  My oldest moved to Pennsylvania to attend graduate school at Bryn Mawr.   She thought I needed to make curtains and reupholster and refinish furniture so she could have the apartment of her dreams.  It is cute.  My other daughter moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington.  My son headed off to college in Jacksonville, Florida.  They all think my idea of a dream vacation is towing a U-Haul trailer to their new home.  I did get to see a bit of the country, but I was too tired from all the packing and unpacking to even go plant shopping.

This is my garden on March 1, 2002--the coldest day of the year.  Underneath the snow are my tulips with buds fully formed.  The trees were leafing out, the forsythia was in bloom, bedding plants were for sale, spring was in the air.  What can I say-- another typical Oklahoma spring. The start of the big pond.  Because our summers are so hot, Alex choose to do most of the digging at night.  We set up some lights to dig by, but I did veto music.  I had a feeling the neighbors wouldn't appreciate heavy metal  at midnight.
Bosco always appreciates a garden wherever it might be. The edging on the new pond.  Stacking stones for an edging is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle.  Every time I look at it I move a stone to a new spot, take one away, switch stones or just fret over how it looks.  I suppose it's just as well I don't pay people to do things like build ponds for me because I would never be satisfied with their work.
