50th Reunion Recap

The 50th Reunion for the class of 1958 is now history.  We held a gala event at the historic Belleview Biltmore Hotel in Clearwater.  Many of us were absolutely blown away by the attendance level.  We had a total of 175 attend either or both weekend nights of this milestone.  Of that number at least 103 were actual classmates.  In fact, when considering our dear departed and our lost souls, we were at about 45%, of our available class, in attendance.

Our main objective was to make this the “best ever” 50th Reunion.  Several attendees, who were from adjacent classes at CHS said that this was the Best Reunion that they had ever attended.  This speaks volumes, since at least two are married to CHS grads.  We wanted to, while modestly pricing ($15pp lower than the 45th) attendance, provide a weekend to remember.   The decorations were illustrative of the 50’s.  The memory posters were copious and conjured up recall of the great times of our youth.  That included a display of the ones that we will never see again, done very tastefully.  The facilities for the dress down Friday night were as good as the food.  Saturday night’s entertainment featured music by a DJ, dancing, floor games, “fun facts” about your classmates, drawings, a silent auction and, most importantly, classmate song and dance routines.  The Directories featured then and now photos along with bios and special depictions of the alma mater and environs.

Duke of Earl was performed with a cast of throwbacks.  And perhaps the highlight of the entire evening was a routine of the “BLUES MAMAs.”  This was a hilarious song and dance routine from two of our ladies in costumes featuring engorged feminine endowments and crazy antics that would make even the Blues Brother jealous.   To see pictures of these and other highlights of the 50th go to Shutterfly.com, click on member Sign-In, enter User Name: clearwaterhigh@hotmail.com and use the password “classof58.”  All entries need to be in lower case.

The 50th also included ancillary events.  Friday morning a golf outing was held at the Clearwater Country Club (CCC).  Believe it or not, one of your classmates shot a 68………..and he is not a member there.  On Saturday, there was the outdoor Clearwater Historical Society Fish Fry at noon, along with a luncheon at the CCC for those who wanted to avoid the heat.  Also, on Saturday, a gathering at the hotel pool for sun lovers, to round out the daytime activities.   A hospitality suite was open periodically through the weekend for casual socializing over drinks and snacks.   The plan for Sunday was an afternoon rendezvous at the new Jimmy’s Fish House & Iguana Bar at the entrance to Clearwater Point.  With boats of all stripes cruising by and a guitarist strumming Caribbean songs, most enjoyed the coastal cuisine of Florida along with tropical drinks and other adult beverages while overlooking the Gulf and the Bay.

For those who were unable to attend (and others) this memorable weekend, not to fret.  Your Reunion Committee has decided not wait until the 55th.  Make a mental note that another “Tweener” social event will be scheduled for mid way to the next Reunion.  We did one of these after the 45th Reunion that was a great way to keep in touch between our every five year Reunions.  Details will be provided as they are available.

May 31, 2006

After a two year hiatus, we are ready to crank things up again.  Planning is just about get under way in earnest for the Grand 50th Reunion.  The Reunion Committee members are excited as are a number of our Classmates who have contacted us about the plan.  The next Committee meeting (this Summer) will kick off the official effort necessary to make this the "best ever."

Other News is not so pleasant.  Unfortunately, we lost two dear members of our of our Class and of our Reunion Committee.  Bill Burkhardt died about two years ago.  Also, Helen (Smith) Zeigler passed away recently.  Both had worked very hard on the 45th Reunion.  They will be missed not only for their untiring efforts to make your Reunions successful but because they were cherish friends and, in the case of Helen, a wonderful life mate for our good friend and classmate George Zeigler.

Again, on a sad note, we received notice from his that Herbert "Sonny" Fennell passed away this past Thanksgiving.  When he was buried, he received all the military honors for his service top this nation.  He, too, will be missed.

May 31, 2004

It has been some time since the last update to the News Section of our Web Page.  Unfortunately, the News of this month involves the loss of one of our Classmates.  Tragically, Buster Narum passed away on May 17 at his home in Clearwater.  His memorial services were held locally with a large contingent of our classmates in attendance.

The class of ’60 has once again planned a multi-class annual event to be held at the Palm Pavilion on July 31st.   The event starts at 7pm and includes dinner with a cash bar for only $11 per person.  Please make your plans to attend and respond with your RSVP to:  ketzwyler@aol.com.

September 30, 2003

This continues to be a rather quiet period.  Several more of our Classmates have requested to be placed on the Shuttefly.com Share List.  October should offer the opportunity to make progress in setting up a procedure for those interested, to obtain a copy of the 45th Reunion Video tape.  A key Committee member involved in the video tape has returned from his Summer sojourn to New England.

August 31, 2003

We continue to receive requests for access to the two albums posted on the Web site Shutterfly.com.  There are 97 photographs that are available to review.  Not counting the Reunion Committee, we have had an additional 32 classmates and friends who are included on the Share Online feature at that site.   There is also an effort in the works to develop a CD with the 97 digital photos displayed on Shutterfly and many, many more that came out of the 45th Reunion.  The intent is to make the CD is sufficient quantities to assure a very attractive price.  More on this later.

We are also planning to replicate the Video tapes that were recorded at the 45th by Chris Bax and make those available for purchase.  Once the key Committee members return from their Summer vacations we will be announcing detail plans on how to purchase the Video.   One of our Committee members, Bill Burkhardt, has come up with an idea on how we might purchase and resell baseball caps that feature the CHS colors and our class.  You may have seen some of the Committee members at the Reunion with such caps.  Leon and Lynn Toups (Roley) are to be given credit for coming up with the concept and having the caps produced originally.

There is not much to report on Committee action since our June post mortem meeting.   Since the 50th (gulp) is so far away and the 45th efforts have accomplished a lot of the non-recurring items, the near term focus will be on finding Lost Classmates and completing the efforts to make the visuals from the 45th available.  Thanks to Pat Moore from the class of ’56 we have located a couple of folks from the Lost List since the 45th Reunion.

July 31, 2003

A kind of hush has transcended the entire Clearwater Area.  Perhaps, it is the post Reunion blues or maybe it is the anticipation of another five years before the next Reunion.  In any events we need to buck up our spirits and move forward.  In fact, we do have some things to look forward to in the meantime.  The annual event!…..And the visuals from the 45th Reunion.

The Class of ’60 has beaten us to the punch.  They just held their second annual party at the Palm Pavilion last Saturday night.  It was a well attended event that serves as a good model for our annual Party.  RSVP’s were required to attend.  A buffet line of burgers, hot dogs and all the complementary sides……..all for $12 per person.  We will develop our own concept but we sure have a good paradigm.

An Email message was broadcast to members of the Class of ’58 announcing a procedure to access the photos from the 45th Reunion, including the Class pictures.  There were numerous individual photos of both the Friday and Saturday night get-togethers.  If you did not receive that announcement and would like the opportunity to preview those photos send me an Email with your request and I will do the rest.  My Email has changed to:   togator@verizon.net.

We also have a lengthy video of both the Friday and Saturday night functions.  We know what the copy costs are.  Once we have nailed down the other costs, an announcement will go out via Email and it will be posted on this site.

June 30, 2003

Very shortly there will be announcements as to how those in the Class of ’58 may access a Web Site to obtain copies of pictures taken at the 45th Reunion.  Many of those shots are very professional, in spite of the fact, that members of the Reunion Committee acted as photographers.  Boy, those digital cameras are great!  When we provide the access link be sure to check out the Saturday night Class Photos.

Your Reunion Committee met at Tom & Alwyn Borst’s home on June 8, 2003 to assess those things that worked at the 45th and those things that we need to improve.  Anyone who attended the 45th and who has not provided their feedback, as yet, are encouraged to contact any member of the Reunion Committee with your thoughts.  We also used this June meeting to initiate the planning process for the 50th.  Wow!  More on that subject later.

A SMASHING SUCCESS!

The day had arrived at last.  The CHS class of ’58 started into the Sheraton Sand Key Hotel on Friday afternoon, picking up nametags featuring their yearbook photo and name in inch high letters. The weekend edition of the Clearlight contained the schedule of events, and news of optional activities.

The hospitality room was the central meeting place, featuring refreshments and the opportunity to see who had arrived.  The room closed as the Friday evening reception got underway.  Dan Walbolt welcomed the class member and their guests and recognized class superlatives, such as those attending from a great distance, years married, lots of grandchildren and the like.  Don Bax supplied hats and tee shirts for the winners.  The party continued back in the hospitality room far into the night.

Saturday morning found coffee and Krispy Kremes in the hospitality room, enough sugar to get anyone going.  By noon, many members were in the CHS cafeteria for the Clearwater historical Society for their fish fry.  Former teachers , Coach Bill Justice and Coach Doug Mason were there.

The hospitality room again became the meeting place until time to begin the evening dinner dance.  The class picture was taken, and Chris Bax, son of Don Bax videotaped the event.  Our MC, Ken McNulty welcomed classmates, recognized the reunion committee and announced the winners of the raffle items and silent auction.  Dinner was served and dancing began.   The Highlight of the evening was the Rockette chorus line to the tune “New York, New York” by the females of the class with a lineup of males as audience.  Then it was the guy’s turn to strut their stuff to “The Stripper.”  We have quite a few agile, and unrestrained dancers in our group!  The ‘50’s music continued into the night, and moved onto the hospitality room until the wee hours.

Those who could still move Sunday morning found coffee and Danish in the hospitality room before getting the energy to migrate up the road to the Palm Pavilion.  It was quite a bunch who assembled to rehash the weekend and “where did that tattoo come from?”

If you were not with us for this outstanding weekend, plan for our 50th in 2008 and be in on all the fun!

April 30, 2003

It’s Reunion Time!

This update is being posted early because your Reunion Committee will be quite busy as we approach April 30th and the Reunion dates of May 2-4.  It appears that at this moment we will definitely exceed 140 total attendees with a number in the 110 range for the Saturday night Dinner/Dance.  We have had a flood of sign-ups during this past couple of weeks.

Those attending are encouraged to include the Saturday noon (11:00am) Fish Fry at the CHS cafeteria.  This is event is put on by the Clearwater Historical Society and only costs $6 per person.  Many of our former teachers are supposed to attend and there will be, to die for, fish, cheese grits and hush puppies.  Also, the Raffle and the Silent Auction have great items that you will definitely want to win or bid on, so bring some extra cash.  Also, keep in mind our casual gathering at the Palm Pavilion on Sunday afternoon.  This will be an opportunity to relive the events of the weekend and say goodbye to old friends.

We want to thank several people who worked on the Reunion Committee to make the 45th the best that it can be.  In spite of the need to travel great distances we had four classmates participate actively during the past 1-2 years, making an important contribution.  They include Shirley fight Waddey from Brooksville, John & Larica Taylor from Dallas, Walt & Jan Williams from Enola, PA and, last but not least, “Fairway” Frank von Geyso from Kansas City, Mo.  A big “thank you” to those folks and an invitation to anyone from the class, no matter your geographical location, to consider becoming a member of the 50th Golden Jubilee Reunion Committee.  We need hardworking, smart (is that an oxymoron, considering we are from the class of ‘58) people who enjoy planning and perpetuating our heritage.

March 31, 2003

Bingo! We just hit the magic number of 100 commitments for the 45th Reunion at the Sheraton Sand Key.  Plus we have perhaps as many as another 20 who have indicated that they are planning to send in their Registration forms.   Anyone reading this News Item, and who have lost their Mailer data (Registration Forms), please send me an Email and I will forward the necessary forms via Email.  My Email address is on the “Contact Us” page of our Web site.

We imagine that there may be a number of people who are still on the fence as to whether to attend.  Your Reunion Committee selected May for several reasons, none the least of which is the weather.  We are anticipating ideal conditions for both inside and outside activities.   As such we are planning a Golf Outing on Friday, May 2nd.  Anyone one interested should contact either Don Johnson or anyone else on the Committee.  Another of those reason is the Historical Fish Fry in the Cafeteria at ole’ CHS.  That takes place at noon on Saturday.  There will be plenty of time for the class of ’58 to meet and greet long time Clearwater people.   Also, you will get evenings of ’50 music; when is the last time you heard Bill Haley and the Comets?  The Saturday night Trivia contest will be an eye opener; you will finally find out who put the very large grouper on the roof outside the gym!  And who would want to miss the really big surprise; there will be a Raffle and Silent Auction with lots of great prizes!  The causal event on Sunday afternoon at the Palm Pavilion will provide everyone a chance to say goodbye for a while to old friends.

The last meeting of the Reunion Committee took place Sunday March 30, 2003.  We were able to resolve some last minute open items to ensure a successful event.  Your Reunion Committee is thrilled, thus far, with the response from our classmates for the 45th and future events.

Please review your data on our Web page.  We have had classmates move and or change phone numbers or Email addresses.  Many have notified us of the changes; however, there are some cases where we still have outdated information listed.  Please notify us of any changes and we will assure your records are current.

February 28, 2003

The latest Reunion Committee meeting was held at Lynn Roley Toups and Leon’s home on February 16th.  This was a very productive two hour session wherein numerous outstanding issues for the 45th were addressed and in most cases resolved to satisfaction of all involved.  We had one of our best attended events.  There were 29 Committee members on hand.  We took the occasion of this meeting to take pictures of the Committee, one of which is posted on our Web page.  Please check out the “Contact Us” section at the bottom of that page where this photo is located.

Excitement is building for the 45th Reunion.  More and more classmates and friends of the class are signing up to attend part or all of the scheduled events.  If you have already made your commitment, we welcome you to one of our best Reunions ever.  If are planning to attend, early submittal of your paper work is encouraged.  Mike Beehner (Alice Flandreau Beehner’s husband) is doing an outstanding job with the directory but needs your inputs to make it even better.  All of those who haven’t as yet responded, may receive a call from the Committee to answer any questions or concerns about attending this event.

Due to a computer problem (hard drive loss), the “Where is Everybody?” section (with the cities and names of classmates by state) update has been delayed.   I am pleased to announce that the update has been completed.  This was an enormous task fraught with opportunity for error.  Please open the “Where is Everybody?” section and click on you state.  If you do not find your name and city entered properly, contact the Committee with any and all corrections.

Getting back to the latest Committee meeting, several people deserve special mention for their unselfish devotion to making this the best Reunion in quite some time.  These are the members who traveled from outside the Clearwater area at no little expense and sacrifice.  Thanks go to John Taylor who came in from Dallas, Walt and Jan Williams who traveled down from Pennsylvania, also to Shirley Fight Waddey who came in from Brookville, FL and, finally, Frank von Geyso who came all the way from Kansas City.  I know, I know……..some of those places are COLD but who wants to travel in bad weather?

January 31, 2003

The Bucs Won, the Bucs Won, the BucsWon!  Well, this place has gone nuts!  After 27 years and an 0-26 record to start, the Buccaneers are the World Champs.  We are ecstatic and all who have a heritage from this area ought to feel very proud.  Monday night after the game when the Bucs returned from San Diego, 65,000 fans, in a turn away crowd, attended a welcome back event at Raymond James Stadium with only one arrest being made.

Now, back to the Reunion – Our next Committee meeting is scheduled for February 16th at Lynn Roley (Toups) lovely home.  We are finalizing plans for each of our scheduled events and ancillary activities, such as the hospitality room.  The Sheraton has blocked off rooms for us around the hospitality suite, located adjacent to the spa, pool and beach.  Those planning to stay at the Sheraton may want to request a room near #123 (hospitality suite).

Those of you who frequent the Web page are probably aware that we are already up to 54 folks signed up for the 45th.  That is an excellent start, when you consider that we still have over 70 names on the Tentative Attendee list and we have received a number of commitments from others in the class.  Also, we have added a new section to the Web page.  Check out the “Where is Everyone?”.   Shortly we will populate that page with the location of all known classmates by city.  Just click on a state!

January 8, 2003

Bulletins at Once - We wanted to inform everyone in the class that two members of the 45th Reunion Committee had serious surgeries recently in Morton Plant Hospital.  Tom Borst had heart surgery on January 2nd.  While the post operative period was very difficult, Tom is doing quite well and is expected to go home today or tomorrow.  Additionally, Leon Toups (Lynn Roley's) husband had surgery yesterday and while experiencing some discomfort, is doing well.

December 31, 2002

Happy New Year from your Reunion Committee - We hope that everyone from the CHS class of 1958 has a most prosperous and joyous new year.

For those of you who are keeping track of the planning for the 45th on the Attendee section of this Web Page, we have over 40 commitments to attend!  That is very encouraging since the mailer just went out in mid November and we have experienced two major holiday periods in the meantime.  Indications are that we should hear from quite a few more folks during the month of January.  Fortunately, from the responses thus far, there are only two "Regrets".

We would like to draw your attention to the Local News section of this Web Page.  Two recent articles of interest from the St Pete Times are displayed.  The first addresses an exciting entrepreneurial venture from one of our Committee members, Dan Walbolt, and his son.  The second is an update on the "Roundabout" debacle on Clearwater Beach.

OK, we are up to 228 people list on our "Class List" section of this Web Page with only 7 names listed who have declined to have their contact data displayed.  We have 38 folks for whom we have mailing addresses but have not been able to reach by phone to secure permission to be listed in the Class List.  If you are one of those and want to be listed, please advise me at, to.gator@verizon.net.  We have some 64 names on the Lost List and, sadly, 33 names on the Deceased List.

We have an exciting new Interactive Skycam available.  In the past we have provided a link to an Interactive Skycam atop the Adams Mark Hotel on the south end of Clearwater Beach.  A new Interactive Skycam has been added which provides views of the new Memorial Causeway bridge construction, the Sand Key Bridge and many other views of Clearwater Bay sites.  You may load the following url on your address line to link to the site,  Beach Cams (2).url.  Or just go to the WTSP home page and click on Skycams.

This Web page is undergoing constant updates and improvements.  We are pleased to note that the Class List section now has our complete Found List, Deceased List and Missing List.  Also, please check out the Local Area News and the Trivia links.  They have been improved.  The "Where is Everybody?" and the "Remember When?" links are in the process of change and should be available in final form shortly.

November 30, 2002

Bulletins at Once - The Mailer has been sent to all members and friends of the CHS class of 1958!  Hopefully, you have received your packet which contains among other things, the announcement of the 45th Reunion, Reunion details, Bio request, attendance form, the Tentative Attendee list and Lost list.  If you have not received your packet by this time, it is highly likely that we have an incorrect address for you.  Please use the following Email address to.gator@verizon.net and send me your latest mailing address.  I will do the rest.

The latest Reunion Committee meeting was held, as planned, on Nov 10, and with plaudits to the hosts, George & Helen (Smith) Zeigler.  The session was principally held to stuff the envelopes mentioned in paragraph one. It was a keystone cops operation.  Joan and Dowell Coachman (Bates) with help from Andrea Ahrens and Joan's sister, provided the bulk of the packet material.  Several big Ooops! occurred.  We forgot to put a requested response date on the material.  Don & Marsha Johnson secured a stamp and hand marked each of the 257 envelopes after then meeting.  You could see Al & Linda (Mallette) Guy, Joyce Snyder, Andrea, Bill Burkhardt, Tom & Alwyn Borst, Alice Flandreau (Beehner) and others frantically folding, stuffing, passing, cutting notes (part of the Ooops!), pealing, pressing, etc.  It was quite a scene.

We have made some progress on the upgrades to this Web page.  The Found list is now current as is the Deceased list.  The Lost list has a glitch but should be available shortly.  We are starting to populate the bottom five buttons.  We are very excited about the "Remember When?" link.  Thus far we have only one item displayed, thanks to Joyce Snyder.  We have other grade school, and high school candid photos which will be added shortly.  Please Email or mail such items to me and we will include them on this link.

For those who have not yet responded, we would encourage you to return you attendance forms and you bio information as soon as possible.  Alice & Mike (Flandreau) Beehner  are working hard on the directory.  The sooner the bio data is available, the sooner we can finalize that document.  Thanks for your help.

October 31, 2002

Well, everybody is back.  I think.  In any event we are going ahead with the next Reunion Committee meeting on November 10, 2002.  The main goal of this session is to stuff envelopes with the 45th Reunion details, bio request, registration form, Tentative Attendee list and the Lost list.  Everyone in our Database ought to receive their invites within a few week, except for Glenn Duncan who is floating around in a sail boat off Australia.

We are asking everyone to bear with us on the Web page updates.  Our Web Master is finishing his College Degree this December and has his hands full of very challenging assignments to complete that effort.  We should have some progress to report very shortly.

If we haven't already mentioned this, it is important to note that the Class of '58 is planning an annual event.  Kind of a, "how you been for the last year", thing.  Probably at the Palm Pavilion, with a date and time identified well in advance.  No charge and no formal commitments to attend (at least to start).  We have a substantial number of colleagues who live commuting distance from the area and others who plan annual or semi-annual visits.  Out-of-towners may plans there visit avail themselves of the opportunity to attend these soirees.  Why, heck, Joan Wickens (Brightman) is in town from San Diego as this News update is being penned.

The packets you will receive will include the Lost list.  That list is down to 63 but that is way too many.  Since you are already in out Web Page, could you check to see if we haven't been able to load the Lost list into the Classlist button.  If so, help in finding these lost souls is greatly appreciated.

September 30, 2002

Well, the Summer is passing into history.  Many of the Reunion Committee members have been or are on vacation and, as such, have been away from the area.  Ergo, this is not a abundant period for News items.

For those of you visiting this site recently, we apologize for the inconvenience.   We are in the process of making several exciting updates to this Web Page.  In addition to the current sections, we are adding a link to the Tentative Attendee list for the 45th, a Trivia link, a Local Area News link, a link to a geographic representation on where all our classmates currently live and a Photos (primarily school years) section.

We have contacted 220 classmates regarding placing their contact data on our Found list in this Web Page.  A phenomenal 213 have agreed to list all or some of their contact information.  Our Lost list down to 64 folks with solid leads on several people.

Those of you availing yourselves of this site, whether you are local in Clearwater or outside the area, will be interested in accessing a Skycam located atop the Sam Adams Hotel on Clearwater Beach.  This Skycam may be accessed via www.wtsp.com.  When you go there simply click the Skycam button on the left side of the page. Several Skycam are available.  Select the first entitled "Interactive Camera - Clearwater Beach."  This Skycam allows user control of the sights viewed.  They include the Sheraton Sand Key, Pier 60, Gulfview Blvd S, the Sand Key Bridge and a view of the new bridge construction  at the mainland side of the Memorial Causeway.

August 31, 2002

Your Reunion committee met as planned on August 18th.  We accomplished all the agenda items.  Events for the Reunion are now firm.  Pricing has been established and is so attractive, that it should not be a factor in attendees decisions to be part of this gala event!  Members of the Reunion Committee were given an opportunity to sign up and pay for their participation in the Reunion.  As a result, we have between 15-20 folks committed to attend our 45th Reunion, even though the Reunion is  seven months away.

The next committee meeting is proposed for early November where the 45th Reunion Announcement/Invitations will be produced for the Fall Mailer.   A number of ancillary issues will be addressed at the time, to wit, the New Class Banner, the Saturday Night Raffle, further discussion of an Annual Event, Web page updates and the Lost Classmates list.

Again, to review some interesting stats, we currently have 95 people from the Found list indicating plans to attend the Reunion.  This number includes several members of adjacent classes and friends of the class.  It does not include guests or spouses.  We have 189 people indicate a preference to have their contact data listed on our Web page.  That is over 96% of those queried.  We have 73 Found people yet to contact about Web page inclusion.  We still have 70 names on the Lost list.

The CHS Class of 60 held an event on Saturday night August 24th at the Palm Pavilion.  It was call the 60 @ 60 party and was very well attended (well over 100).  A number of our Committee members attended.  We have held preliminary discussions at the Reunion Committee meeting of holding an annual, similar event at the Palm Pavilion.  We have some 140 folks from the Class still in commuting distance this area.  Along with those who could schedule their annual visits to Clearwater in concert, it was thought that an annual pay-as-you-go function might be well attended and a good way to keep up with old friends.

Now on the local news front, we have many member of the Class of '58 who have achieved some level of national (and international) fame and notoriety.  Well, we can add Alice Flandreau (Beehner) to that list.  Alice, a member of your Reunion Committee, has been widely featured in the Bay area papers and TV reports as the lady who fought for justice.  Actually, Alice has been interviewed on Good Morning America and  Dan Rather.  She was mentioned on Rush Limbaugh and a interviewed by a Canadian Radio Station.  It seems, a Mr Connolly bought the lake for less than $1K back taxes behind Alice's home and erected a pink fence to block the view of Alice and her neighbors.  A type of  extortion ensued, where Connolly demanded $30K per home owner to remove the fence.   I am pleased to report that Alice and her neighbors have WON!  They bought the lake back (for a mere $450 each) and there is the promise that Mr Connolly may be going to jail for some other unrelated, nefarious dealings.  Justice is served.

Post Script:  As a consequence of the campaign by Alice and her neighbors, the State Legislature has passed a law that requires notification to adjacent land owners when a parcel is up for public auction.

July 31, 2002

Well, things are progressing nicely on Reunion Committee activities.  A meeting is scheduled for August 18th to finalize plans and pricing.  The announcement for the 45th Reunion is planned to be mailed in the late Fall.

Here are a few interesting statistics.  We have 366 names in our database.  That includes classmates, people who were part of the class but did not graduate with us and friends of the class.  We have 263 classmates on the Found list, of which we have contact information listed for 129.  We have 72 on the Lost list and regrettably 31 on the Deceased list.  The 134 on the Found list who have not been contacted but want their contact data listed on Web page Found list, may acknowledge permission to me (Gator) at to.gator@verizon.net.

As part of our database activities, we are accumulating Email addresses for everyone on the Found list.  We currently have a total of 137 Email addresses.  This is crucial since we can get important news distribute very rapidly.

I would like to provide special acknowledgement to Edna Glahn (Marshall) who lives in NY City, one and a half miles north of WTC.  As part of the effort to locate lost classmates, Edna took on the task of finding Watt Clark (goes by William now).  After a great deal of research, internet and phone work she successfully located our missing classmate.  It's efforts like those of Edna's that will ensure the best possible 45th Reunion.  Big thanks to Edna!

Stand by for exciting updates to this Web page.  As mentioned in the past we are planning to revise the Forums section.   The Web master is busy working on establishing four new hyperlinks.  Among those will be a link to the Tentative Attendee list for the 45th Reunion.  We have in excess of 90 people who have announced plans to attend this event and we haven't even announced the details or pricing.  In fact, we have contacted less than half the class to determine the status of their planning.    This will be a special event!

June 30, 2002

We have entered a quiescent period on Reunion Committee activity.  The next scheduled meeting of the Committee is planned for late this summer.  In the meantime, several subcommittees have been active.  The Overall Planning & Pricing Subcommittees were hosted by Joan Coachman ( Bates).  A great deal of progress was accomplished.  With a follow up meeting by the Sheraton Arrangements/Hospitality Subcommittees at the Sheraton, we are at a point where the 45th Reunion plans and pricing are virtually set.  The Decorations and the Entertainment Subcommittees have been active, completing much,  if not most, of their responsibilities.

During this quiet period , your Reunion Committee has concentrated on locating Lost Classmates and validating the contact data for Found Classmates.  These activities, abetted by many members of the Class and the indefatigable efforts of Pat Moore, from the Class of 1955, have resulted in reducing the Lost Classmates list to a count of  76.  Furthermore, we now have 108 Classmate Email addresses  in our CHS '58 Address distribution list.

Kudos go out to Carolyn Fowler (Hogue), who from her base in Banford, FL has not only located two Lost Classmates but she actually found a Classmate who had, heretofore, been accounted for on our Deceased list.  I am pleased to report the Ron Yowell is alive and well, living in North Carolina in blissful retirement.

This month Dan & Silvia Walbolt made a trip to Jackson Hole, WY to visit Tom & Ann Muller for a mini-warm up to next years gala at the Sheraton Sand Key.  Dan took along photos from Coach Smith's eighth and ninth grade PE classes at CJHS.  Many in the photo were recognizable as member of the '58 Baccalaureate list.  Now, that bring me to an issue.  We need to jazz up the Forums page on our Web Site.  The Web Master tells me he can add pages of photos to the Forum  portion of the site.  I am requesting that all who visit this page look around for such memorabilia and Email (scan) or mail to me (I will return the originals), shots from past Reunions, of our High School days, Junior High and Grade school.  These pictures will be fun to share.

We are looking into other upgrades for the Forum page on our Web site.   Trivia is always a lot of fun.  We are considering monthly online trivia games dealing with the 50's.  Please send to me, your thoughts on this suggestion.  Also, we are in the process of adding the link to the Sheraton Sand Key and possibly other links germane to our Reunion planning activities.

May 31,2002

Welcome to the first update to the News section of the CHS '58 web page.

Your Reunion Committee held its fourth planning meeting on May 19, 2002.  We welcomed Don Bax to the Committee.   We also, welcomed Bill Burkhardt to the Committee.  He is currently teaching German at the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, CA but planning to retire to Clearwater later this summer.

Several months ago, we conducted a Post Card mailing to provide an early announcement of our tentative 45th Reunion plans for next year.  We have approximately 360 names in our database.  That is about 30 more than at graduation - aren't we popular.  We have also lost about 30 members of the class.  We mailed around 250 Post Cards.  About 30 were returned as undeliverable.  We subsequently located about half of that number.  Shortly, the Lost Classmates section of this web page will list those persons whom we have not been able to locate.  Your help in locating those folks is greatly appreciated.

We are very excited about the response thus far.  From the mailing and other contacts made to our Classmates by the planning Committee, we have had a significant number of attendance commitments by members of the  Class of '58!

A major "thank you" goes out to Kent Taylor, son of John Bradford Taylor  (Committee member from Dallas, TX) and computer maven for setting up this web page and training, yours truly, "Gator",  aka Bob Handley to handle updates and additions.

Please use the hyperlinks on the Home page or the Committee page of this web site to make inputs or provide suggestions on how we may make this the "best ever" Reunion for the Class of '58!

This page will be updated on a regular basis, so please check in often.
