This recipe produced a Scotish ale of medium brown color with just a faint red glow. I've only drank a couple of bottles but so far I am extremely happy with the taste. As I take a taste I first experience the sweetness of the crystal malt. This initial hit of sweetness is quickly followed by a slightly burnt flavor on the edges of the tongue. This burnt flavor, brought about by the chocolate malt, is not overpowering but a nice balance to the sweetness of this ale.
After swallowing the sweetness will dissipate and you will be left with only the slightly burnt taste. This, to me, is a very nice aftertaste. Hopefully this beer will get even better with a couple more weeks in the bottle. After the first taste the only thing I would think about tweaking is maybe uping the chocolate malt to a 1/2 pound.
