Ballot lawsuit in Texas

Sep/18/2008 16:29 Filed in: Politics
Not sure how many of you are following this, but Bob Barr has filed a suit in Texas, over their handling of the candidates being listed on their ballots. Basically, what happened is that both Obama and McCain missed their filing deadlines. According to campaign laws, this means they're not allowed to be on the ballot in the state of Texas, come election day. However, they went ahead and put them on the ballot anyway.

Now, some of the political blogs and news sites are editorializing, claiming Bob Barr is simply making "bogus" claims, and attempting to put up roadblocks to the political process!

Maybe they didn't notice (or care??) that Bob Barr was disallowed from being a choice on the ballots in the state of West Virginia for this exact same reason!

As far as I'm concerned, this isn't even about people supporting Bob Barr or Libertarians. This is a simple question of, "Do the campaign laws now ONLY apply to 3rd. party candidates?" The paperwork (requested by Bob Barr's election committee for review and eventually presented to them) proves the Democrats and Republicans missed their filing deadline. If they're allowed to be on the Texas ballot, it only further reinforces my belief that our laws are selectively enforced these days, and the American people aren't allowed to have more than 2 choices for president anymore.
