My iPhone and 3rd. party applications, plus new fimware

Oct/12/2007 15:16 Filed in: Apple
For those of you interested in such things, I'm happy to report that I successfully followed the instructions posted over at www.iphoneatlas.com yesterday, and was able to update my Apple iPhone to firmware version 1.1.1 while still leaving it able to run 3rd. party applications!

The whole process took me about 2 hours, so it's not (yet) anywhere near as easy to do as what they came up with for the previous firmware versions - but I'm just happy to "have my cake and eat it too" for right now.

The new firmware addresses the issue of volume being too low with many bluetooth headsets, and I was definitely struggling with that issue over here with a Jabra headset I wanted to use with it. It also adds the nice little feature of automatically entering a period, a space, and auto-capitalizing the next letter you type when you tap a spacebar twice on the iPhone's virutal keyboard to end a sentence. (I'm not so concerned with their "main" upgrade feature, the ability to buy songs wirelessly via iTunes.)
