Al Gore and his Nobel Prize

Does anyone else think it's a bit of a stretch
giving Al Gore the Nobel Peace Prize for his
"Inconvenient Truth" documentary? Did we have a
shortage of people doing work that benefited
humanity this year? It seems to me that this type
of honor should be bestowed upon individuals who
actually came up with solutions to problems -- not
to those who simply pushed for awareness that a
problem exists. (For that matter, it wasn't like
people could go watch "An Inconvenient Truth" at
their local theater for free. This film cost just
as much to see as any other movie.)
We never gave director Paul Haggis a Nobel Peace Prize for his movie, Crash, in 2005 - even though it arguably raised a lot of awareness about the problems of racism!
This whole thing strikes me as a political move, as much as anything. (One group already took out ad space in the New York Times to try to convince Al Gore to run for president, and it certainly undermines the Bush administration's official comments downplaying global warming as a concern. If we weren't coming up on an election year, I'd bet this award would have gone to someone else.)
