Things were very quiet afterwards. Months went by without hearing another word about it. Meanwhile, I informed my job of what transpired, concerned that it might affect my employment somehow. Luckily, my employer had enough common sense to realize it didn't, "as long as you weren't giving out copies of programs WE own". (Nope, sure wasn't! So that was ONE less worry at least.) At some point, my attorney suggested a meeting with the agents and my parents (without me present, since after all - they did the search & seizure operation while I was away at work, and had never even seen me in person yet). As I understand it, this meeting went fairly well, until questions came up about a possible time-frame for completing their investigation and returning my property. At that, the agent in charge got irate, raising his voice and proclaiming "We don't give criminals their toys back!"
Fast-forward to about a year later. I *finally* received a phone call at work one afternoon. It was someone explaining that they were from the FBI, and they wanted to know if I could arrange a time with them to come by and "pick up my stuff" that was taking up a lot of space in their evidence lockers. They said they were in the process of moving to a new office, and needed it cleaned out! Although excited to think this signaled the end of this fiasco, I was also worried about just showing up at one of their offices. Was this some kind of trick? It turned out I didn't have to worry for long, because they called back to schedule a "better time" a couple different times, followed by an agent deciding it was easiest for him to just "bring the things by my house" after work one evening.
