HHT
and the 3/17th Squadron were activated at Ft. Knox, Kentucky
in 1966. After training there for approximately a year the Squadron was
deployed to The Republic of South Vietnam in the Fall of 1967. HHT was
first assigned to Di An, just north of Saigon, and attached to the 1st
Aviation Brigade.
In
late 1970 to early 1971 HHT moved to Phu Loi, a bit further to the North.
HHT remained there until being redeployed back to "the world" in March
of 1972 at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The Squadron was attached to, and
supported, the 25th Infantry Division there. After a few years in Hawaii
and the end of the Vietnam War HHT and the Squadron were deactivated.

The
Redhorse Squadron
The
3/17th Air Cavalry Squadron served in Kentucky, Vietnam, and Hawaii. It
operated in Vietnam as an air-mobile intelligence and scouting resource
for assorted military units within our area of operations and managed to
see a great deal of action while there. HHT was the command & support
Troop of the Redhorse Squadron. Pegasus, the mythical winged-horse, was
our Troop and Squadron emblem.
While
many HHT troopers saw combat, our primary mission was to support the squadron
headquarters and our 3/17th Troops scattered about and moving (often) throughout
central South Vietnam. That support meant everything from combat Command
and Control to insuring you got your morning cup of coffee, if you were
lucky enough to be in a position to enjoy one.
