MATES

Soulmates
In
this day and age many of us are looking for soulmates. I believe
this relationship term is now commonly used because our
consciousness has evolved to the point where our mate is no longer
ideal simply defined as breadwinner or housewife, macho man or
super woman. We don't want a mate, just to have someone there. We
don't just want a ring on our finger to know we are secure. In
this day and age we want a soul to mate with.
Our current
search for a soulmate is much more spiritually driven than was the
case in the past. The basis for relationship and/or marriage is
now more than ever, driven by the desire to really know and be
known. To know thyself, one must be confronted by a self that you
feel safe to reveal yourself to.
Are we not much more
capable of finding ourselves through relationship? As J.
Krishnamurti calls it, "The mirror of relationship." We
are looking for a soulmate that will hold up the mirror for us --
allow us to see ourselves as we never have before. Our desire is
for our soulmate to hold up a mirror that is more polished than
our own, with a clearer image of ourselves. A mirror less clouded
than the one we have been looking through. For, without such a
mirror, the other cannot be our soulmate.
The urge for a
soulmate is really the urge to become one with God. Our human urge
is always to join, and it is forever such, because our growth is
always from separateness to union. Our search for our self, and
ultimately our deepest Self, is not in error when it seeks The One
in human form. All of us are created in the image of God, and
ultimately therefore, are one with God. We are pieces of the
puzzle. When joined with the right part, we begin to feel the
union that we crave.
Just as Walt Whitman informed the
world that he would not abase himself (his physical embodiment) to
God as spirit, just so, we can more readily come to union with God
by seeking source in other bodies--other souls. Are we not made to
join? Are not the two genders designed for union? Are we not
closer to God embracing our bodies and discovering union with
another, through them? And when we discover this union with a
soulmate, does this union not point to God?
As spirit is
without form, it is hard to imagine union with God. However, in
our humanness we can at least imagine union with another person.
In our deepest self we know that there is someone out there who
will join with us and show us more of who we are. Let us not
disparage that-- forsake that, for each is a messenger of Source.
There may be many, several, or perhaps just one soulmate, waiting
for us. To refuse the outstretched hand of another, or to not
reach your hand, is to abandon the search.
So, we set out
on our search for our soulmate. If you are looking for your
soulmate, whether you realize it or not, you are on a spiritual
quest. You are seeking to know God as yourself. And how better to
know God as yourself, than by first seeing him in others?
So
who is your soulmate? That would be someone who has developed
values and insights that are along the same path as yours. Perhaps
not the same religion, perhaps not the same practices, but the
values and intentions are the same. Your soulmate, you already
know, will draw you out, test you, refine you, not to their way,
but to the One.
You and your soulmate know that there is no
one right path, that all paths lead to The Path. Both of you know
that each of your paths leads to the One. There is no unconvincing
you that your soulmate is out there. This is because your soulmate
is a step, perhaps a large step, on the path to the One. Your true
soulmate embodies directions to Source, and is a blessing to know.
The one you are searching for is the One Self, the Source of your
searching, for the seeker and the sought are ultimately discovered
to be one. As Jesus said, I am in you, and you are in me, and we
are all in the Father.
This is why no matter what others
may say, no matter how they say it, they will never convince you
that your soulmate is not out there somewhere. Deep in your soul
you know that there is an ultimate Soulmate. And, even though you
may not yet know that you are looking for God, for union with your
creator, you do know that you must join with someone, that you
must experience union to be complete.
So, do not disparage
yourself or others seeking a soulmate. For the urge for union,
even if only for union with another person, is a spiritual quest.
It is not a quest you can drop This quest is ordained by Self from
the beginning, ordained by God. It drives all embodied creation to
seek return.
You may have found your soulmate once, or
several times, and then lost them. But you persist. This is not an
urge that you can drop. So bless the desire for your soulmate. All
are steps along the way. All are necessary. All are for the
purpose of refining your search until you realize that your
soulmate has always been with you, and always will be.
You
and your soulmate are already one in Source. And when you both
become aware of this, neither of you will seek another soulmate,
but will live together in harmony, abiding in The One.
