JESUS OF INDIA Suggested Uses of the book

Contemplation:Jesus of India was the product of many years of contemplation by the author. As such, the author expects that many will find it a contemplative resource. There are many kinds of contemplation, meditation and prayer, what works best for one may not be best for another. Maury Lee's experience has always been that the thoughts of a deeply reflective thinker were more inspiring and beneficial to his own spiritual development than mediation or contemplation of any other kind. In writing Jesus of India, Maury Lee chose the form of a novel because he wanted a wide readership. He was well aware that many people do not read theology or the esoteric texts of the Essenes, the dialogs of the Eastern gurus or the Christian mystics. As such, how do you bring this understanding to a broad public? Maury Lee believed that with the right format many more could be introduced to the world of mystical awareness, that, though draped in different clothes, is essentially the same throughout the world's religious cultures. Maury Lee hopes that Jesus of India, in the form of a novel, will be sought after by many who would otherwise be left behind. He would like very much to hear from those who read the book. In fact, honest criticism of any kind is welcome. Therapy:As a trained therapist, Maury Lee hopes that the therapeutic effect of the book is readily felt. Our brains being a program of sorts, can be problematic for a soul possessed by bad experiences, rigid thinking, fear and self distrust. Jesus
of India is intended to break up rigid thinking of a
spiritual nature. Or better said, he hopes that rigid thinking and
feeling that is interfering with an open, joyful and free
spirituality, can be loosened up and made whole again. In Maury
Lee's understanding, a mind in prison is a soul in hell. Maury Lee
knows than freedom and wholeness are As J. Krishnamurti so elegantly stated, "Truth is a pathless land." That being the case, if you are stuck on a path, you will not find your freedom, or know your own soul. Unfortunately, not all who are stuck on a particular path are even aware that they are stuck. And the first insight into the prison of path can be frightening. As Arthur Janov so vividly pointed out in his work, there are two kinds of pain; the pain of reality and the pain of denying reality. In denying reality, painful experiences keep repeating themselves because one refuses to see or feel the pain. It's like beating your head against a brick wall and failing to acknowledge that it hurts, though others may see the blood pouring from your wounds. The answer of course, is to feel the pain of experience. No doubt that hurts, but there is a bottom to that pain, true experience, once deeply felt, puts one in touch with reality in such a way that one can avoid future pain of a similar nature. Jesus of India , at first may be painful, but if one is up to the challenge of one's own reaction fully, Maury Lee believes that you will find more freedom, more peace, more reality, more hope, and less fear. Therapists are encouraged to use this book with people whose fears and depression come from rigid and intolerant religious backgrounds and upbringing. Maury Lee himself, after studying psychology and therapy for many years, finally had to go beyond it because it didn't go deep enough, for ultimately, the real cure for human psychological pain is to truly know oneself, and if that knowing is deep enough, one will know himself fully, and know for a fact, that he is one with God, the force and spirit of the universe. If you are That? What is there to fear? As that, you are free, whole, at peace, and resting in the arms of the Universe. Arms that can never fail. Reading Groups and Bible Study:Use this book in your church or spiritual study groups. You do not have to agree with it. Use it as a challenge for your members to critically examine their own faith. Do
you or your church members really think and strive to know God for
yourself? If not, this book could serve as a challenge, a spark to
revive the faithful. Your own faith may be challenged, and
therefore strengthened. Entertainment:Of course entertainment is one of the best reasons to read Jesus of India. Maury Lee suspects that many will just simply enjoy the book for the twists and turns of plot. The whole world has always wondered where Jesus was during all those middle years. The answer to that question is a mystery, and the mystery lends itself to a lot of speculation. Enjoy what the fertile mind of Maury Lee came up with. If your a Christian, keep in mind that Maury Lee is not seeking to destroy your faith, but deepen it. If you have read his notes on the book, you know he has made it abundantly clear that the work is entirely fiction. That being the case, you need take nothing in it as gospel, he doesn't. And for you rebellious folk, you might get a lot of entertainment value out of the liberties taken with the Character of Jesus. You might enjoy seeing Jesus taken off the pedestal the Church fathers glued him to. Seeing this character as a human, with human thoughts and feelings, and human failing, might be highly entertaining. NOTE: As far as enjoyment goes, Maury Lee believes that what goes into a book must also come out. If this is so, Maury Lee believes that readers will find the same joy and love and laughter that he felt in writing it. Of course, you may also feel the pain, the struggle, and the fears he felt in the process. Whatever your take on the book, please let us know.
