-- Bradford Ripley Alden Scott: Memoirs of the Civil War

Postscript

N.B. I am not attempting to write History. The causes and history of the Confederate War have already been fully detailed by competent hands of those engaged in the struggle, and I have read their works with greatest interest to understand, for the first time, the connection and meaning of all I saw and heard going on over and around us in those eventful years 1861 to 1865.

I have only given from my view point what I remember of these events as subsequently explained to me, that may interest junior members of my family, who I hope may all be spared any closer acquaintance with such occurrences again.

The Century Magazine articles "Battles and Leaders of the Civil War" by commanders on both sides with added notes all republished now in book form furnish the most entertaining and valuable history of the Civil War that I ever knew of.
