Family 1:
John HAYNES
MARRIAGE: 23 Oct 1575, Sherbourne, Dorsetshire, England
Notes: The spelling of her given name comes from census records. However, later family members knew her as "Katie," so her real name may have been "Katherine." The census taker could easily have misspelled it.
Buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, Kansas City, KS.

Notes: According to family tradition, Hugh came came to America from Ireland with his brothers, and settled in Pennsylvania around 1790. However he may to have arrived rather earlier, since various legal and military records mention a Hugh Larimer in the Westmoreland area as early as 1774.
His marital history is likewise obscure. His will mentions his wife Mary. She may have been Mary GETTEMY, who married a Hugh Larimer and bore him two children. However this Mary was born in 1804, and was therefore too young to have borne most of our Hugh's children. If this is the right Mary, she must have been at least his second wife. This is the conventional account reflected below, but the evidence appears to be less than conclusive.
Family 1: unknown
Family 2:
Mary GETTEMY
Two children, names unknown.
Notes: Hugh spent most of his life in Donegal Township, Westmoreland County, PA. Around 1848, Hugh moved with his second wife and most of his children to Noble County, IN. In 1851 they moved again, to Lucas County, IA.
The identity of Hugh's second wife is murky. Several secondary sources refer to her as Agnes "Nancy" MCDOWELL. So far as I can tell, all these sources are echoing a manuscript by Dr. Guy LARIMER, to which I have no access.
The "Agnes" may come from several entries in the Westmoreland County Deed Book, recording land transactions involving Hugh LARIMORE and his wife Agness, with no maiden name specified.
On the other hand, other documents ([S55]) clearly indicate that Nancy MCDOWELL was the wife of Hugh LARIMER. There is no hint of an Agnes among the MCDOWELLs. So far as I know, none of the primary documents connect an Agnes to a LARIMER, nor a LARIMORE to Nancy MCDOWELL.
LARIMER and LARIMORE are different spellings of the same name, and people were not always punctilious about spelling. Indeed, the will of Hugh's first father-in-law refers to him as LARIMORE. These considerations probably led Dr. Guy LARIMER to regard Hugh LARIMORE and Hugh LARIMER as the same person. This assumption led further to the awkward conclusion that his wife was both an Agnes and a Nancy.
It seems equally likely that there were two Hughs: a LARIMORE, married to an Agnes, and a LARIMER, married to Nancy MCDOWELL. Hugh was a common name among Irish immigrants of the time, and such a similarity of names is entirely plausible.
(The above analysis is based on extensive information provided by George Rompot, among others, in personal communications. The conclusions are my own.)
Hugh is buried at Douglas Farm Cemetery, Lucas County, IA.
