After waking in Baton Rouge and getting a quick glimpse of the Louisiana capitol, reportedly the tallest of the fifty, they took the back roads to New Orleans through more heavy rain.

After obligatory visits to the Jackson Brewery and the Café Du Monde, they had lunch at an open-air restaurant in "The Quarter." Despite birds flying through the cafe and rain blowing in the window, Carol enjoyed trying gumbo and a mufflata sandwich. Being too full for dessert, they purchased a Beignet Mix for later use. (Someone has characterized the beignet as "a French donut.")

Next stop, Tallahassee, FL, a long drive via the coastal highway (US 90) instead of the faster I-10, but the scenery was wonderful. White sandy beaches, casinos, Spanish moss, seaside mansions, and a car show or two were the unmistakable features of the Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida Gulf Coast.

Upon arrival at the motel in Tallahassee, they were reassured by the police officers in the lobby that the perpetrators of the recent motel robbery had left and that the area was " now secure." And as the old Johnny Carson quip goes, "Yes, they did have reservations, but they decided to stay there anyway."
