Always
Hope...
Compiled by Cindy
Cline-Flores, with photographs by Alisa
Murray, this book is an incredible
collection of true stories about people who have
suffered, and survived, some of life's most brutal
trials. As the author says in her introduction,
"The stories are about ordinary people who have
not only faced their fears, but have gone on to see
the beauty life offers to those who take the time to
see and consider the wonders all around them. By
taking the time, and opening their eyes, hearts, and
souls, these 'ordinary' people have become quite
extraordinary. Working on this project, and getting
to know some of the people who offered their stories,
has touched me on a very deep soul level...In the
most profound sense, they are my heroes." This book includes a
special foreword by famed writer Ray Bradbury.

Calling
all Clay
Aiken fans...
The book that
has Claymates talking has finally arrived!
Jeannie Holleman has penned Out
Of The Blue ~ Clay It Forward, an unauthorized
tribute to the former American Idol star
(and current world idol), and his passionate fans. It
is a delightful, loving book with lots of humor,
plenty of photos, and a large collection of stories
about how Clay's music, his faith and his good works
have changed the lives of fans all over the world.
This book was over two years in the making; Jeannie
began it in summer of 2003. It is a remarkable look
at a phenomenal talent...but more than that, it is a
book about his fans, who, as he has said many times,
are unlike any others in the world. Jeannie is one of
Clay's most devoted hometown fans and has the unique
privilege of being close lifelong friends with his
"adopted" family, the McGhees. This is a
must-read for all current and
future Clay fans. Click here for
more details about Out Of The Blue~Clay It Forward.
We edited the
manuscript for OUT OF THE BLUE and provided dust
jacket and interior design for the limited
edition that has just been published.
Note: Yes, this is
the book that has tongues wagging all over Clay
Nation! In fact, at one point we had detailed
information about OUT OF THE BLUE on our site,
but after receiving some veiled (and
not-so-veiled) threats, we took that information
down, pending the resolution of a few issues. We
would like to make it known that we did this
solely to avoid causing trouble for our client,
who has also received threats, and not because we
are in agreement with the book's detractors. On
the contrary, after working with Jeannie these
past months, we have grown very fond of her, and
based upon the documentation she has provided, we
have no reason to believe she has been anything
but forthcoming and truthful both in her
book, and in her dealings with hundreds of Clay's
fans with whom she has become friends.
Single
women over 35
who REALLY want to get married, listen up!
Myra Kaplan has loads of
common-sense advice, and has put it all together in a
delightful, fun-to-read book called Finding
A Keeper: A Handbook for Single Women Over 35 In
Search of Mr. Right. This is a
refreshing break from all of those "how to get
married" guides. There are no buzzwords,
"rules" or "exercises" (thank
G_d!). Instead you'll find page after page of good
advice, sprinkled with a healthy dose of humor and
lots of truly encouraging real-life stories of women
over 35 who found true love...sometimes when and
where they least expected it. There is also plenty of
good advice about how to tell if the man you're
seeing is not right for
you. Myra offers you much more than simple, flippant
"he's-just-not-that-into-you" answers. Of
course, there's a good chance that if you've been
seeing him for a while, he is
into you, and vice-versa. If so, you'll definitely
want to read the detailed chapter that tells you when
and how to bring up the subject of marriage. Does
Myra's advice work? We'd say the proof is definitely
in the "putting"...in the sense of a man
"putting" a ring on a woman's finger. And
Myra has just informed us by e-mail that she has
heard from two more women who credit their respective
engagements directly to the advice in her book.
That's quite a testimonial, wouldn't you say? Check
out Myra's website at http://www.findingakeeper.com.
(We edited, did page layout
and cover design for Finding A Keeper,
and designed the web site as well.)
The word "hero"
is thrown around a lot these days, but
renowned Houston plastic surgeon Joseph
Agris, M.D. is a real hero. "Doc
Joe" is the author of White Knight
In Blue Shades, the authorized
biography of Texas TV personality and folk hero
Marvin Zindler. Most of the time, Doc Joe can be
found in one or another far corner of the Earth,
helping make life a little better for some of the
world's poorest people. Read about one of his recent
missions here.
(We edited and enhanced White
Knight In Blue Shades, and did page
layout and cover design.)
Weight
loss without
pain and suffering and WITH humor!
Tom Nicoli, owner of A
Better You Hypnosis in Massachussetts, and one of the
world's most successful certified hypnotists, has
just completed a book called D.E.P.T.H.
of Behavior: The Truth About Weight Loss.
You'll have to read the book to find out what
D.E.P.T.H. stands for, but we will say that this
acronym holds the key to the cause of, and the cure
for, most unhealthy behavior. In this book, Dr.
Nicoli de-mystifies and simplifies hypnosis and
self-hypnosis, showing you how to get to the root of
behavior that contributes to weight problems
and how you can re-program yourself to healthier
behavior and permanent weight loss. Think you've
heard all this stuff before? Give this a try, and you
might just surprise yourself. For more information,
and/or to order this book, click here. If
weight loss isn't your issue, Dr. Nicoli also has
CDs, DVDs and E-books about stress relief, pain
management, smoking cessation, sports performance,
and much more. He even offers help for
procrastination. So stop procrastinating, and visit
Dr. Nicoli at http://www.prosperusa.com.
(We assisted Dr. Nicoli in
writing D.E.P.T.H. of Behavior: The Truth
About Weight Loss, and we also provided
page layout and cover design. We also edited one of
his E-books.)
Attention,
frustrated parents: discipline
and punishment are NOT the same. Joyce
Divinyi, an Atlanta-based psychotherapist, author and
lecturer, has extensive experience working with
troubled children and teens in a variety of settings
including schools, private practice
counseling, in-patient and out-patient psychiatric
facilities and residential treatment programs. Her
success in achieving positive behavior changes with
the most difficult situations has led her to conclude
that most adults have the potential to reach these
children and adolescents. The key is to be open to
learning new skills and changing age-old attitudes
and approaches to behavior management and discipline.
The most common response to Ms. Divinyis
strategies is, This really works. Her
principles are distilled in her recent book, Discipline
That Works: Five Simple Steps. Before
you send your errant spawn off to boot camp, why not
try Ms. Divinyi's recommendations? For more
information, visit her website at http://www.thehumanconnection.net.
(We edited and did the cover
and interior design for Discipline That
Works: Five Simple Steps.)
An investment
strategy book
for
everyone. An entrepreneur for
nearly all of his working life, financial advisor Ronald
P. Schutz, founder of SMARTGroup
Houston, has also become an author in recent years. Beyond
Majority Thinking, Rons second
book, uses stories to make its points. That's almost
always a good strategy, but it works particularly
well for financial books, which are all too often
dry, overly technical and booooorrrring. This one is
anything but boring. It goes into the lives of real
people who are facing, and overcoming, the same kinds
of financial hurdles experienced by many folks today,
and it offers valuable, real-world financial insight
without confusing you with charts or industry
buzzwords. Youll read compelling stories about
people like your best friend, your neighbor, your
relatives or even yourself. Beyond
Majority Thinking is available at
Amazon.com, or directly from Smart Press; click here for
more information.
(We did substantial editing
and interior design and layout for Beyond
Majority Thinking, and we also did
substantial editing, interior design and layout, and
cover design for Ron Schutz's first book, Financial
Truths For The 21st Century.)
Beyond the One
Hour Orgasm?
Leah Schwartz, Ph.D. is a
renowned sexuality and relationship expert who's a
long-time favorite on radio talk shows. With her late
husband, the popular Dr. Bob Schwartz,
she co-authored several books, including the New York
Times Best Seller Diets Don't Work,
and The One Hour Orgasm,
which made a cameo appearance in the hilarious movie,
Meet The Fockers. (Watch
for the scene where a dismayed Ben Stiller is going
through the stuff in the office of his mom, the sex
therapist.) Dr. Leah is carrying on the work that she
and Dr. Bob did so well for so many years, helping
couples have more enjoyable sex lives. One of her
most recent books is, Who Taught You
That? Answers To 101 Important Questions About Sex
an informative, myth-busting little volume
that should be on every bedroom book shelf. She is
currently at work on Fungasms 101,
a book that's chock full of suggestions on how to
bring more joy into your life (not just sexual).
Visit Dr. Leah at http://www.breakthrupublishing.com, and
while you're there, sign up for her newsletter.
(We provided editorial
consultation for an edition of The One
Hour Orgasm and Who Taught
You That?, and have assisted Dr. Leah
on various other projects since then.)
Family
secrets could
get a person killed...Oral tradition is
very important in the lives of many African American
families, and Millie McGhee Morris grew
up in a family that truly honored the art of
storytelling. But every family has its secrets, and
one of the secrets no one in Millie's family dared
tell was that a branch of their family tree included
longtime FBI director J. Edgar Hoover. Although
legally he would have been considered black, he could
and did pass for white all of his life. American
society has at least made enough progress that
Hoover's African American lineage wouldn't be all
that big a deal these days. But "back in the
day"...well, revealing a fact like this could
get a person killed. And so Millie grew up with the
family secret buried deep inside of her, and nearly
thirty years after Hoover's death she wrote a book
titled Secrets Uncovered.
Part fact and part fiction/speculation, Secrets
Uncovered is fascinating reading, but
it raises as many questions as it answers.
Fortunately, Millie isn't finished writing! In two
works currently in progress, What's Done
In The Dark and Drifted
Back In Time, Millie expands on both
oral tradition and hard research, revealing more
about "the secrets behind the secrets." Her
works have captured the interest of a movie
production company, and we expect some exciting news
soon. You can buy Secrets Uncovered
on Amazon. com at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/0970182228.
Stay tuned to this page for word about the
availability of additional books.
(We provided cover designs for
several editions of Secrets Uncovered,
as well as for What's Done In The Dark
and Drifted Back In Time.
We have also edited portions of text in some of
Millie's more recent works.)
To hell back
again...Greg Helle (pronounced HELL-y)
is a Vietnam veteran who, like so many others,
suffers from post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD.
He first began sharing parts of his story with the
world through a book of poetry, A Walk In
Hell. Then he decided it was time to
write the complete story of his "walk in
hell," as well as his road back to healing. The
result is a powerful, sometimes painful, but
ultimately hopeful book called The Enemy
Within: One Vietnam Vet Helps Others Cope With PTSD.
This book tells the story of how an innocent farm boy
in Iowa became a tormented man who, rather than
giving in to his torment, decided to embark upon the
difficult journey to recovery. Once he was on that
path, he began reaching out to others with similar
problems, and formed a nonprofit organization called
The PTSD Alliance. The Alliance rapidly developed
into an excellent resource for PTSD sufferers and
their families. If you want to find out more about
PTSD, or are interested in purchasing Greg's books,
visit http://www.ptsdpeace.org.
(We edited the text, and
provided the cover design for both the paperback and
hardcover editions of The Enemy Within.)
Stephanie
rocks!...A
few years ago, when we worked on Pat
Miller's biography of Earl Campbell
(see listing below), we had the pleasure of
meeting and working with Ronnie Bird,
who oversaw this project and subsequent marketing
efforts for the book. In recent years, the
multitalented Mr. Bird has expanded into music
production, and he has been nurturing the career of a
young up-and-comer named Stephanie.
Now on the verge of being signed by a major label,
Stephanie currently has a website that includes
portions of her recent songs. In order to enhance her
marketability, Stephanie may soon be undergoing a
name and image change, but one thing won't change:
the power and the passion she brings to a song. Check
out her web site at http://www.stephanierocks.com. And
remember, you heard of her here first!
(We designed Stephanie's web
site for Ronnie Bird, and also, as mentioned above,
did the Earl Campbell book.)

We edited and
did the page layout and cover design for a
healthy lifestyle guide and cookbook, Recipes
For The Heart, Morsels For The Soul,
by health consultant and cooking expert Carol
Anne Pock. Carol is a breast cancer survivor,
and her husband, Les, had quite a scare with
heart disease. Yet her book is very upbeat
and is a delight to read. In an honest,
straightforward manner Carol writes about how
she and Les had to learn the hard way what a
precious gift health is. The recipe section
is a real treasure, filled with
family-and-friend-tested recipes that are
healthy variations on traditional favorites.
And there's a sprinkling of interesting
anecdotes throughout. (By the way, if you
still harbor doubts that "healthy"
cooking can be delicious, this book will put
those doubts to rest once and for all.) You
can buy the book on Amazon.com. Also visit Carol and
Les' web site at http://www.loveyourhealth.com. |
