"COSMIC RELIEF is a wonderfully outrageous, laugh-out-loud parody of New Age culture!" says David Kaplan, award-winning journalist. (And we didn't even bribe him.)

Exactly what is COSMIC RELIEF?

 Duck Soup for the Soul?

The Eleventh Insight (and, possibly, the Twelfth)?

 The Thirteenth Step?

A tawdry tourist attraction along The Road Less Traveled?

The answer is: it's all of the above, and more! A freewheeling spoof of those wholistic-lifestyle publications you can pick up just about anywhere, COSMIC RELIEF is the little class clown that sits in the back row of the new age movement, snickering and making faces and swatting at buzzwords. But it doesn't stop at the new age... it sticks its foot out in the aisle to trip the self-help and recovery movements, then laughs in the smirking face of corporate America as well. Chock-full of ad parodies and spoof articles, COSMIC RELIEF hits all of the enlightened set's hot buttons with "amazing revelations" such as...
Dolphins and whales really hate us

Goosed by the light? What to do if you're sexually harassed in your near-death experience

Another discovery the government doesn't want you to know about: Face on Mars has a milk mustache

Best healing affirmations for a host of physical challenges: big hair, eye boogers, death, and more

Single Personality Disorder: the disease NOBODY wants to talk about

A guilty pleasure for the terminally enlightened?

Oh, and don't think COSMIC RELIEF is just for skeptics and cynics. In fact, you might call it a guilty pleasure for the terminally enlightened -- or at least the bolder ones among them. You see, there's a certain degree of shamelessness involved in picking up a copy of COSMIC RELIEF; it is, after all, a big bright yellow book whose cover some have described as "gaudy" -- making it well-nigh impossible to hide behind a copy of The Celestine Prophecy, Deepak Chopra's latest bull... er, we mean cash cow... or Conversations With God, Book 68.

And, even though COSMIC RELIEF has been rejected by several metaphysical book stores as being "too offensive," it has unquestionably found a place in the hearts of the spiritually aware. For example, several highly respected members of a prominent New Thought church were recently spied hovering over a copy and laughing hysterically -- in the church bookstore, no less.

In any case, there's no doubt that people on both sides of the fence, and those in the middle as well, are singing its praises!

"Bookstores should divide their humor section into two sections, one for crap and one for books that might actually amuse someone... Connie L. Schmidt's 'satirical romp through the New Age and other related subcultures' is one of the good ones, made especially witty because Ms. Schmidt has done her homework; she's covered it all. Get-rich plans from late-night infomercials, near-death testimonials, self-help, pop psychology, coaching, and flaky spiritual paths that involve house pets and dolphins are all skewered in COSMIC RELIEF... COSMIC RELIEF is a great coffee table book... It's also the kind of book that a good bookstore would file in a wholly new section: real humor."

"If you are seeking relief from the glut of New Age, wholistic lifestyle publications, this high-spirited spoof is for you... The author...uses sharp wit, humor-laced skepticism and computer graphics to create text and ads we'd all like to see... A welcome breath of fresh air."

- Skeptical Inquirer, journal of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal

"Irreverent is the one word that best describes this glorious spoof of New Age culture and commerce, but one word does not do justice to the genius behind this work. The sheer magnitude of Schmidt's wit - and her ability to play on words, themes, famous names, and book titles - is truly impressive, if you are able to stop laughing long enough to have a coherent thought... [It is] deliciously impudent and charmingly offensive...a must for every New Age bookshelf, as it will indeed provide 'relief' after a bout of serious reading."
