YOU CAN'T GET THERE FROM HERE is for people who want to listen to their hearts without having to abandon their minds. It is an invitation for them to finally acknowledge that, although they may have been distracted many times along the way, they have never really left "the path."

Written for people of all faiths or no faith at all, this book offers a sense of order amid the apparent chaos of our lives.

"The image of a god, thunderbolts at the ready, proclaiming, 'Wrong answer!' is the Ultimate Oxymoron. The continuing existence of the human race is, I believe, adequate proof that such a tantrum-prone entity is not at the wheel."

But That's Okay, You Never Really Left

A spiritual travel guide for "the rest of us"

"WHAT? ANOTHER BOOK ABOUT SPIRITUALITY?"
As we go forward into the new millennium, we are seeing a remarkable resurgence in public fascination with all things spiritual. While traditional religions are showing their ever-advancing age and limited ability to answer humanity's greater and lesser questions, countless cults, schools of spiritual thought, and New Age gurus have popped up, attempting to fill the gaps left between faith and physical reality. The shelves of the bookstores reflect this trend, with hundreds of new spiritual titles being added every year.

It would seem we have too much of a good thing.

Or do we?

Despite the dozens of spiritual paths, despite the hundreds of books that all claim to point "The Way," the fact remains that millions of people are still searching. They are hungry for answers, but tired of empty cleverness and unkept promises of "enlightenment."

You Can't Get There From Here is truly for "the rest of us," who are tired of buzzwords, weary of lining the pockets of spiritual hucksters in thousand-dollar suits, and unwilling to accept the incongruities and failings of the religions we grew up with.

This is a book for people who want to listen to their hearts without having to abandon their minds. It is an invitation for them to finally acknowledge that, although they may have been distracted many times along the way, they have never really left "the path."

It is, ultimately, a call to cherish the value of all of life's moments, and face the future with renewed hope and enthusiasm.

You Can't Get There From Here is not a long book; it doesn't need to be, for its message is simple and direct. Best of all, it is not dependent upon the "leap of faith" so typically required of an adherent to a particular spiritual path. Written for people of all faiths or no faith at all, this is a spiritual book of the highest caliber, for in lieu of pat answers it offers a sense of order amid the apparent chaos of our lives - and, even more importantly, an awareness of the all-pervading benevolence inherent in that order.

From this awareness is borne that which humanity so desperately needs: hope.

 TOUCHING THE FACE OF GOD

An excerpt from You Can't Get There From Here
(But That's Okay; You Never Really Left)

If an omnipotent, omniscient God is the true cornerstone of our faith, then we must assume that Ultimate Truth remains intact, unaffected by our acquiescence and adherence, undaunted by our ignorance and/or denial. If there exists a place like Hell to which the infidels and heretics are banished, then only the infidels and heretics are at risk, and of their own choosing.

If, on the other hand, souls are banished to eternal torment simply for having been convinced of concepts inconsistent with Truth, then the "Presiding Judge" would be guilty of a level of prejudice we would not tolerate within our frail, human judicial system. We humans aspire to a level of nobility which precludes the punishment of an individual simply because he or she is dim-witted or confused.

The image of a god, thunderbolts at the ready, proclaiming, "Wrong answer! You're damned!", is the Ultimate Oxymoron. The continuing existence of the human race is, I believe, adequate proof that such a tantrum-prone entity is not at the wheel. Could a God capable of (and motivated toward) the creation of the universe be less benevolent than His creations aspire to be?

I once heard of a Baptist minister who said, "After preaching for thirty years, I am convinced that places such as heaven and hell do not exist! If there were such a place as heaven, it would be empty, because no true Christian could linger in such a place, knowing that other souls were suffering in hell. They would all be in hell, ministering to those other souls!"

We humans have a profound capacity for compassion, even if we do not always acknowledge or act upon it. If we hold forth the existence of a Supreme Being, if we hunger for a deeper relationship, we must acknowledge that God is more.

So long as we acknowledge that no matter how complete and comprehensive our understanding, there are ever new levels to which we may aspire, we will relieve ourselves of the responsibility and burden of being right. It follows that we will therefore excuse our fellow humans from being wrong simply because they disagree with or are different from us.

Whether we perceive our God as a glowing paternal spirit, a robed figure on the sand, or even a three-thousand-foot red jelly bean, the reality is neither enhanced nor diminished by our perceptions. Even the choice to deny the very existence of a God does not affect that existence, only our perception. This is clearly stated in the Christian Bible. Upon this simple concept, the path of our transformation is paved. There is no way to peace. The way is peace.
