This is some general information about our 7th grade class that will help prepare you, and your parents, for the school year.  Welcome to 7th grade!!!!

*GRADING:  Report cards will be given out at the end of each quarter.  In addition to the quarterly report cards, students will receive mid-quarter grades halfway through each quarter.

*HOMEWORK:  All assignments not finished in class will be homework.  They will be due the day after they are assigned unless otherwise specified.  All students will keep a record of their homework in assignment books.  Homework will also include studying for tests, memory work, Accelerated Reader, and spelling.

*ASSIGNMENT BOOKS:  Seventh graders are required to use assignment books.  Our Savior will provide an assignment book for each student.

*FRIDAY FOLDERS:  Each student will receive a Friday Folder that they will bring home every Friday.  The folder will contain a weekly letter from me, all graded assignments and tests, and other important information for parents.  Also inside the folder you will find a checklist of all tests, assignments, etc. that were sent home in the folder.  This checklist must be signed by a parent and returned to Mrs. Loontjer on the following Monday morning.

*MEMORY WORK:  We will have memory work on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Students will receive two memory work packets at the beginning of the school year. The packet will include a calendar indicating when each memory passage is due. They will keep one packet in a folder at school, and the other will be brought home in their first Friday Folder.  Memory should be learned at home and not in a rush at school!!!!!  Memory work is an important part of our religion curriculum and a vital part of strengthening our faith.   Please make sure your 7th grader is prepared for memory work.

CONFIRMATION:  7th grade confirmation class will be taught by our principal on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30-9:10.  Students will be given a percentage and a letter grade.  The grade will be weighted as 50% of their Religion grade.

*TESTS:  Tests, and sometimes quizzes, will be given in all academic areas.  In spelling, we will have pre-tests on Tuesday mornings and final tests on Friday mornings.  Any student receiving 110% on the pre-test will be exempt from the final test. (Two bonus words are included on each test.)  Parents, please help your son or daughter prepare for ALL tests!!!!!

*ACCELERATED READER:  7th graders will be participating in the Accelerated Reader program.  Students will be required to earn 12 points per quarter.  Every Friday will be Accelerated Reading Day in Literature class.  That means that we will spend most of the Literature class period reading.  However, if this amount of time is not enough for each student to read the required amount per quarter, they may have to read for homework as well. 7th graders must chose A.R. books that are at a 4.0 reading level or higher.

*ABSENCES:  When a student is absent, their assignments should be ready for them the day they return to school or it will be sent home with a sibling. When a student is absent, it is THEIR RESPONSIBILTY to turn in their missing work or to make up missed memory work. Students will receive 2 days to turn in work if they are absent.

*LATE WORK:  If a student is absent, their assignments will not be considered late if it is turned in within 2 days.  Work is late if it is not completed on the day it is due.  On late work, the grade will be lowered by 25%. Students will also give up their recess or other privileges to make up late work. Three late assignments in one week will require a detention.

*BOOK CLUBS:  Scholastic Book Club, Trumpet, Troll, and other book order forms will be sent home about once a month.  If your son or daughter orders books, please write a check made out to the appropriate book club.  NO CASH, PLEASE!!!!

I am really looking forward to our upcoming school year!  Let’s all work together to make it a great year!  Communication between parents, students, and teachers is vital to the success of our school year.  If you have any questions, concerns, or comments please let me know.

In Christ,

Sue Loontjer
