19th Logistic Support Squadron

This page is dedicated to the men who served in the 19th Logistic Support Squadron at Kelly AFB, Texas, from it's activation on 23 Sep 1952 until it's deactivation (as the 19th Military Airlift Squadron) on 22 Dec 1969. During its entire existence it was a C-124 squadron. This page is also in recognition of the guys that I served with in the Comm Shop, and lived with in Bay 228.

Following is the squadron insignia. The version as inventoried by the National Archives is not the insignia that was on the patches we were issued. You can see the subtle differences between the two here.

The National Archives version:

Here's what one of the issued patches looked like:

Following is a group photo taken in late summer/early fall of 1962 just prior to the squadron's participation in the Cuban Missile Crisis. The 19th was awarded the first of it's three Air Force Outstanding Unit Citations for this endeavor. This photo is of troops of the specialty shops; hydraulic shop, comm shop, propeller shop, fabric shop, electricians, auto pilot shop, sheet metal shop, ground power shop, etc.
