President's
chat
* I just wanted to take this
moment to remind everyone of some of our upcoming events.
As you should know we are sponsoring a new project for us this year entitled The People's Law School. The People's law School is an informative program sponsored by TCBBA to give the public (non-lawyers) nuts and bolts basic rights in areas of the law that non-lawyers encounter. Example Torts, landlord-tenant rights, criminal law, family law etc. This is an opportunity for our members in private practice to expand their client base and to offer some of our elected and public officials the opportunity to get out the vote and the word to our constituents. Let us remain proactive in reaching out to others. This event is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 6, 1999. Hopefully this will be an ongoing project for years to come. It should be very rewarding for all
participants involved and it should be informative for all who attend.
Please spread the word. For further information on this project please
contact Jackie Robinson at 201 Main Street Fort Worth, Texas 76102 Tel
# 817- 348-3100; fax = 817-348 -3199; email = jrobinson@GwinnRoby.com
for details.
* If you are not aware, the
State Bar Conference is scheduled to take place in Ft. Worth beginning
June 9th, 1999 through June 12th, 1999. This is an
opportunity for our members to make important contacts throughout the state,
and for us as a bar association to take on a higher profile. Let's take
advantage of this opportunity to highlight us and Tarrant county. If you
have any ideas please contact our committee chair Bobbie Edmonds @ 817-332-6501
or by email at GoodVerdict@juno.com
.

* As Sonyia Byrd commented
to me "for you dinosaurs" not yet on the internet, you can access the internet
by accessing the computers through Texas Wesleyan Law School. (You still
have to have subscribed to an internet provider, but once done you can
access the internet). Texas Wesleyan Law School library wants us to know
it is open to lawyers from TCBBA on a daily basis until 12:00 midnight.
Bring your state bar identification. We can use their computers for research
using Westlaw and Lexis until 11:30pm nightly. For more information contact
the library at 817-252-4000.
* In keeping with this years
TCBBA administration's theme of preparing for the practice of law in the
new millennium, I am urging everyone to get an e-mail address and to gain
access to the internet. For all of you not yet on the Internet, or using
e-mail, or for those who wish to switch internet providers, TCBBA has an
ongoing fundraiser with Flashnet communications to be your internet provider.
They have agreed that TCBBA receives a small percentage of your initial
installation fee for our treasury. So tell your friends and employers to
contact Douglas Greene to assist them in gaining access to the internet
and e-mail.
* We have a Web site!
In case some of you did not receive our previous newsletter's, our newsletters
will be posted on our web page as released (hopefully monthly). Our web
page can be accessed over the internet at http://home.swbell.net/qdcg
. Also our directory of members can be accessed from our Web site and
we have included several web links to other relevant sites. Call Douglas
Greene @ 978-2753 or Qdcg@swbell.net
if you have your own web site address to link with ours.
* Please note that the Tarrant County Bar Association has just begun their own web site. Their address is www.tarrantbar.org You can access their web
site from our web page.
* Thanks to Nachael Howell, TCBBA
has its own email address. Send all bar related correspondence to
TCBBA@hotmail.com

| LAWYER HUMOR
Stupid Clients of the month: *Two men tried to pull the front off a cash machine by running a chain from the machine to the bumper of their pickup truck. Instead of pulling the front panel off the machine, though, they pulled the bumper off their truck. Scared, they left the scene and drove home. With the chain still attached to the machine. With their bumper still attached to the chain. With their vehicle's license plate still
attached to the bumper. (Courtesy of WWLA)
*England: A German "tourist," supposedly on a golf holiday, shows up at customs with his golf bag. While making idle chatter about golf, the customs official realizes that the tourist does not know what a "handicap" is. The customs official asks the tourist to demonstrate his swing, which he does--backward! A substantial amount of narcotics was found
in the golf bag.
* Location unknown: A desperate
bank robber lays in wait outside of a local downtown bank. Finally, the
opportunity presents itself and he abruptly walks up to a teller with a
note demanding all the startled teller's money. After receiving the money,
he quickly rushes towards the door to perfect his escape. He crashes into
the door several times in a frantic attempt to escape. The door will not
open. He throws his arms and shoulders into the door several more times
without luck. Finally, after pacing back and forth in full view of the
video surveillance camera's, another customer enters the "push from the
outside pull from the inside door" bank entrance door, and this exasperated
bank robber escapes with the police not far behind.
*Walking through Chinatown, a tourist is fascinated with all the Chinese restaurants, shops, signs and banners. He turns a corner and sees a building with the sign, "Hans Olaffsen's Laundry." "Hans Olaffsen?", he muses. "How the heck does that fit in here?" So he walks into the shop and sees an old Chinese gentleman behind the counter. The tourist asks, "How did this place get a name like "Hans Olaffsen's Laundry?" The old man answers, "Is name of owner." The tourist asks, "Well, who and where is the owner?" "Me, is right here," replies the old man. "You? How did you ever get a name like Hans Olaffsen?" "Is simple," says the old man. "Many, many year ago when come to this country, was stand in line at Immigration Documentation Center. Man in front was big blonde Swede. Lady look at him and go, "What your name?" He say, "Hans Olaffsen." Then she look at me and go, 'What your name?" |
