Placed 1st, in distance! Arrived at the final
destination, within .8 miles of the official mileage. After the
awards, found out we were also runner up on the scavenger hunt.
Got 35 out of 39 questions. The scavenger hunt winner got
36. Another driver turned in the exact mileage. The tie
breaker was the the number of questions answered right.

Arrived at the starting location, just south of
Tomball, TX., around 11:30 am. It's already getting hot, but the
top stays down...... Quite a few cars are already here.
Ultimately, about 30 Porsches, 3 Ferraris, and 1 Infinity pull
in. Porsches of all models participate - 911's (pretty much all
years - classic to new, a 914, 993s, a 968, Boxsters, etc....)

After registering, picking up the obligatory hat, and
signing the insurance waiver,
we're ready to go. We are queued up in line, about 10
back At our turn to leave (12:05 pm), we pick up the
driving directions, and after a quick review, we are off. Being
the first rally sine high school, I wasn't really expecting more than
a nice driving day.
Following the directions, we head North, take a quick
right, a quick left, then start looking for clues: "How
many days to sell your house", "How many lakes go
East"?. Cross over the Cajun, follow some more clues, to
the first stop - Big Daddy's Ice House (a "biker friendly
bar"!) Head North again, looking for more clues:
"Where does royalty live", "When was this historic town
established"?. Then, some tricky directional clues: Right
where you can "Trust the man who wears the star", "If
you remember October '97, it's time to turn right" (this one a
bunch missed, a right turn on FM 1097). More clues: "What
Rock Star will drill your teeth"? (Rod Stewart, of course -
ala Rod Stewart dentistry in Willis). Avoid the Blair witch, and
go through
Podunk (really!). Look for some sheep on a mailbox, and search
for the motto of the "Soldiers of Jesus Motorcycle Club
("Let's Ride", BTW). Do a loop, and head for the
Pumpkin Patch. Wow, that's a big bull!!!! (This is
screaming for a funny caption! Check out the bulls eye, checking
out the Boxster) Off to look for 2+2=4 (FM 224). The clues
say Go for It! We did!!!! Some pretty good twisties to
open
up on. Now time to find the Governor's monument, and the Blythe
spirits. Located the monument, and graveyard where former TX
governor Wood (1795 - 1858) rests. Gov.
Wood was governor of TX from 1847 - 1849 . Almost
done..... Time to find Miss Jean's, to pick our BBQ for the
evening. Just past the "Dirty Business", hang a right,
hang another right, but "Don't run into the Big Lake!"
Pulled in to the
final checkpoint at 3:30: Bud and Amy Walters lake house on Lake
Livingston, with a total of 117.2 miles for the run. We were the
second to arrive (started 10), behind a beautiful red Ferrari 355,
then another 355 pulls in right behind us..
Over the next hour or so, most everyone else pulled
in. What a site, a killer lineup of exotics, lining the
bulkhead.

A few more pics of the day.

And finally, here I am, nice and sunburned !!!!
