"Love
does no wrong to a
neighbor;
therefore
love is the
fulfillment of the law."
-Romans 13:10
What
is a "Dynamic Christian"? In the Interpreters Bible concerning 1
Timothy 2.8-12 the commentary refers to something called "stabilized
piety." Stabilized piety is described as a rigid loyalty to old
religious practices and an unreadiness to recognize the call of the
Spirit to new ways. This "stabilized piety has been responsible for
the defense of slavery, child abuse, and many other social ills through
out the centuries." The commentator goes on to say that "Not stabilized
piety, but dynamic, creative piety is the fruit of the Spirit."
I believe we need to reexamine our beliefs
with a view to being sure that we fully understand what they mean. Once
we've done that, the challenge is to then figure out meaningful ways
to share them and apply them to the world and culture in which we live
today. A "Dynamic Christian" tries to move beyond "stabilized piety"
and to apply "dynamic, creative piety" to their faith and behavior.
