International Folk Dancing

6:30-9:00 pm, Conover Auditorium,
All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church

Fun, Fitness and Friendship
Stretch your weekend with an evening of fun, fitness and friendship at International Dancing. Join us every Sunday night from 6:30 to 9:00 pm at All Souls' Unitarian Universalist Church on the Plaza. You'll be thrilled by the compelling rythms and graceful movements of traditional dances from all over the world. You'll meet people like yourself, who are interested in the customs and traditions of other cultures.

(P.S. It's also great exercise!)

Haunting Music
Louise Baggett and friends have been teaching international dancing in Kansas City for nearly 30 years. Most of the dances originated in the Balkan countries, but our repertoire also includes many dances from the Middle East, Central Europe and Scandinavia. At first you'll be surprised by the irregular rhythms. 5/16, 7/8 and even 11/16 are common in Eastern music. But those microtones and minor keys will have you singing a different tune in no time at all!

No Partner Necessary
Most of the dances are done in a circle or line, so you don't need a partner. Come alone, or bring a friend. The Sunday Night group includes a very wide mix of ages--from students to septagenarians. So no matter your age or marital status, you'll fit right in.

No Lessons Required
The evening begins at 6:30 with an hour of easy dancing. Many dances are taught or at least demonstrated, so don't stay away just because you've never done this sort of thing before! Admission is just $2.00--the best entertainment value in Kansas City!

Live Music with Terpsichore
once a month (usually on the third Sunday), plus special ethnic evenings and parties throughout the year.
