This group meets in the upstairs dance room, begins with easier dances, and does a lot of teaching. Newcomers are welcome. $2 for JCC members & $3 for non-members. Scandinavian Folk Dancing, Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 Westport Road, KCMO. This group performs Scandinavian couples' turning dances and mixers, and welcomes newcomers. Some teaching. 816/444-4253 or contact Tom Jongeling.

Fridays

Scottish Country Dance, Merriam Community Center, 7:30-9:30 pm, Merriam Community Center, 57th and Merriam Drive, Merriam, Kansas. The Scottish Country Dance group is back and busy restructuring to become more accessible to beginning and experienced dancers alike. Instructors: Ann and Larry Graham, Steve Lebofsky, Mary & Greg McCoy and Ann McFerrin.

International Folk Dancing in Lawrence with a group of experienced, enthusiastic, energetic dancers. Beginners welcome. Teaching done by request. June 7-end of December: 7:30-10:00 pm at the Dance Academy, 1117 Massachusetts. International folk dancing January-May: 7:30-10 pm at St. John's Catholic Church School Gym, 12th & Kentucky. International Folk Dancing led by Bob Shapiro and Elaine O'Gara from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 1821 SW 37th St., Topeka, KS. No experience or partners needed. All ages welcome. Most dances will be easy, but other dances can also be done if other experienced dancers participate. $2.00 donation suggested to help the church defray expenses. Sundays

International Folk Dancing, Kansas City, 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, Conover Auditorium, All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 4501 Walnut (one block east of Main Street). Louise Baggett and friends have been hosting a lively group of beginning and intermediate folk dancers at this site for nearly 30 years. If you're curious about folk dancing, this is the place to start. Most dances are taught and the evening begins with an hour of easy dances for beginners. Live music with Terpsichore one Sunday every month (see Monthly Dances/Special Events above) and lots of other special events throughout the year.
