Dear Brethren,

This was my second Stated Meeting and there was a lot going on. The presentation of the Fifty Year Service Award to Brother Wayne Wright was just great. The District Deputy Grand Master, R: W: Bill Crews, was there to present the award. Brother Wright brought his wife, daughter and son. We were glad to welcome these special guests. It was a very special night for Brother Wright and I was glad to be part of this celebration.

The Grand Lodge authorized a Forty Year Service Award last year. We will be awarding these to those Brethren who have earned them. The Lodge has agreed to buy the awards to be presented to these worthy Brothers. We will be setting a date for this special event very soon.

We had a EA proficiency on August 8, a Fellowcraft degree on August 10, and an EA degree on August 17.

Thanks to Brothers JB Hutcherson, Jim Mendenhall and Gary Spraggins for preparing the audit report.

I have scheduled a Golden Trowel award presentation for Saturday, October 28 at 6PM.

The Trestle Board is still doing well financially but we could always use help to keep it well funded.

I hope this summer has passed as quickly for you as it has for me. It seems that the hurrier I go the behinder I get. Oh well, I guess that the alternative is not so good, either.

I was pleased to see that our own Junior Warden was elected to be the Treasurer of the Master's, Warden's, and Secretaries Association for this year. This is good for Smithfield Lodge, and the 64th District. Let's wish Mike well, and congratulations on the new son. Mike will make a fine father. Our Lodge is fortunate to have a man of such caliber in the line-up. Wish him well, and volunteer to help him in any way you can.

I was very pleased that Arlington Lodge called on me for a talk on Tuesday night Aug. 8th. I spoke on “one making a difference”. Bro. Fred Stewart was my example. Even in death he still portrays Masonry. I still miss his friendly voice, and manner. He was, and is, a fine Mason.

The District Deputy, Rt.W. Bro. Bill Crews, made his second official visit, and found the lodge in good order. I want to thank the brethren for their attendance, and support of the W.M., good job, Rickey.

Your officers have made it a point of order to attend the MW&S Assoc., and the MSB this year, thank you guys. These are good organizations, they give us a lot of information, support the Blue Lodges, and deserve our attendance, attend if you can. The Masonic. Service Bureau met at Handley Lodge on Wednesday Aug. 9. Rt. W. David Dibrell, Dep. Grand Master, was the guest speaker. We left the meeting inspired to be better Masons, and better men. Thanks to our representative, Harold Webb, P.M. for his dedication to this organization. Let me invite every member of Smithfield to Join Bro. Harold at the next meeting, we always meet on the second Wednesday of the month, good food, and wonderful fellowship, join us soon.
