Laser-X

LaserX2Laserx

Here are some pictures of my clone of the Centuri Laser-X. On the left is a photo Bill Gee took as it was ready to launch on its maiden flight from the local field at a DARS launch, and the one on the right is graced with Jack Hagerty's original Mars Snooper. Jack took the photo at NARAM 44 and sent me a picture. Jack's Snooper was signed there by Vernon Estes. Both were flown at NARAM 44. The Laser-X and Mars Snooper were competing rockets, during the days when Estes and Centuri were competing with one another. Both are very cool rockets, and they look great on the pad or in flight. Jack may include his photo in another publication he is planning.

I built the Laser-X using current Estes parts (PNC-5, BT-5 and BT-55) and converting the plans from JimZ's site, so it isn't the same size as the original. I had to resize the decals to fit and printed them using Bel, Inc decal paper, which came out really well. I highly recommend their product if you use an inkjet printer. I also picked up an original kit of the Laser-X off eBay in pristine condition. While Jack doesn't mind building the original kits, I don't think I'll be building mine. My clone looks really good sitting beside the original kit. Besides, Semroc Aeronautics Corporation sells a clone of the Laser-X that is just outstanding. Be sure to visit his store at Semroc.
